Slow service, but excellent value - review added on Wed 10th Aug 2005
Review of the K2 restaurant (Indian) in Dunstable.Date of visit: 9/8/05Party size: 13Time: 8:30pmPrice including drinks: £17.50 per headMy overall view of this restaurant is unimpressed. The service was slow and the food nothing fantastic.I booked a table in advance, yet when I arrived they had not set the table and had to ask me how many in my party and arrange the tables there and then. We waited 10 minutes while they did this and I was not offered a drink. The service was slow (it was not busy, just 1 other party) and after arriving at just gone 8:30pm my main order was not taken til 9:10pm. Poppadoms were delivered though somehow we seemed to have 50% more than we asked for, I hope we were not billed for these. The waiter (manager) seemed to struggle taking orders for side dishes and we ended up with more naans than we ordered, again I hope these were not charged. I had to remind the younger waiter twice that we were still awaiting a round of drinks. Perhaps if they provided glasses larger than thimbles we would not need to refill our soft drinks so regularly. The clearing of the table after each course was also very slow. The poppadoms were freshly baked, hot and tasty. The condiments for them were nice but more variety was needed, we had duplicates of some sauces and some standard sauces were missing. The starters were good and were in large portions. Several people complained privately that their main curry was to thick, too dry. The sauce needed a touch more water in it, it felt too much like the texture of plaster. One curry dish even had a custard-like skin on it, as if it had been sat under the lamps for a long time. The curries were however tasty. It was unusual in my opinion for the meat to be diced so smally but this was quite a nice change. When the naans arrived the waiter did not even know what he was about to deliver, he asked who needed a keema naan but placed down plain naans. Two garlic naans arrived but I don't remember these even being ordered. The overall bill was very reasonable indeed, it worked out as around £17.50 per head, with 2 or 3 drinks each. This represented excellent value. It was impossible to check whether a mistake had been made on the bill because, as usual, the writing was awful. We left 2.5 hours after arriving, which is a very long time for a curry.Overall, slow service, muddled orders, but good food and excellent value. If they were to improve the service I would recommend it, otherwise without an improvement I would warn to steer clear.
