Customer Reviews for Chequers Country Carvery - Reading

Had the Sunday carvery. Meat portion good selection but stingy amount, vegetables cold and watery were sitting in water too long. Service very good, puds ok, ambience ok, we had cold air blowing down on us at start, which was turned down on request, rest of pub warm. Plate size small, good for me but my husband left feeling hungry. Have had much much better, wouldn't go again.

Worst meal we have ever had !!!! - review added on Mon 4th Jun 2007

Went for sunday carvery in the evening On arriving were told Carvery Station out of order But they would carve meat in kitchen and bring veg to table in serving dish OK we said Well the meat must have been carved the day before the veg was so hard it could have been raw. the waitress couldn't care less, she said that the station had been out of order for over a week But she still charged us full price We paid and told her we would never come back she couldn't care less about the situation!SO we would never recommend this carvery to anyone

Would never go again - review added on Mon 24th Sep 2007

Visited yesterday with my partner after getting a craving for a turkey carvery! Called ahead and checked they were serving turkey and then head off for the 20 min drive. Got there and there was no turkey which was fine for me but my partner who did not want the beef or gammon on offer was disappointed and asked the supervisor on duty why when we had called ahead this hadnt been mentioned. As he had gone to do this the waitress who had seated us starting talking to the customers on the next table to me and maoned loadily about the cheek of my partner in complaining and made such a fuss very loadly that in my embarrasment I asked her if she realised the CUSTOMER she was moaning about rather rudely and unprofessionally was my partner to which she relpied "yes I know." We didnt stay as the customers and waitress made us feel so uncomfotable. Having said this the food on display looked a bit watery and as if it had been standing there too long anyhow and the plates were very small as the previous person has reviewed. There are many things that can go wrong in a restaurant but rude staff should not be one of them. I will not be returning.

Lack of cleanliness and service - review added on Tue 20th May 2008

Visited the Chequers with a group in February 2008 and the service co-ordination with the kitchen was appalling as was the cleanliness around the carvery. The food generally was acceptable except the turkey which was rubbery and anaemic. I subsequently rang to complain and was asked to put this in writing, This was promptly done and, to date, despite a second phone call, has been ignored with no reply. This was the second visit in a year and both times service was appalling. I will not be rcommending this to the many people I know in the area.
