The Next Level - review added on Thu 27th Apr 2000
Pub food taken to the next level. It’s expensive but, really, so what. Even simple things like a Caesar Salad and Tandoori Chicken are done to perfection but The Carpenters Arms also excels at the more unusual. I had a red mullet fillet in a butter and saffron sauce that actually has saffron in it as opposed to just some colouring as others try to get away with. Smoked salmon parcels were as light and delicate as expected and the linguini with cream and pine nuts was tasty enough to dig at on it’s own. Desserts didn’t disappoint, being as well presented as the starters and mains, but weren’t quite there in the taste stakes, although my apple pie was faultless.Review: 01-September-99
