Trattoria Pasta Fresca - Cambridge, Cambridgeshire

Description

Serves mostly Italian food - pasta, pizza, calzone. The restaurant isn't as big as some in town, but there's a separate room upstairs for groups. Relaxed atmosphere with an open kitchen right next to the door. Starters about £1.50-£3.50, with main courses from £4.00-£8.00. Often have a few wines as specials in addition to their main wine menu.

Style of food on offer: Italian
Price Guide: £5.01 - £15.00
Accessibility for disabled: not accessible - The small doorway, and narrow gaps between tables probably make it pretty difficult, or impossible, for any wheelchair access.

Customer Reviews for Trattoria Pasta Fresca - Cambridge

Great food, slightly cheap decor. - review added on

Having heard so many good things about this restaurant (or rather, Trattoria - a smaller, more relaxed establishment, as the website points out), I finally decided to try it in April 2002. After a bit of a struggle to seat us (a group of 6 without a booking; it was entirely our fault), we were allowed in and shown to our table. The menu was extensive, and the wine list good, probably as you'd expect in a smallish restaurant such as this. Between us, we ordered a range of main courses, along with garlic bread as a small starter to try and satiate my appetite.Five of the six main courses arrived fine. The other, however, had cheese on, when it had been ordered without (the person concerned can't eat cheese). This was resolved without fuss, and a few dishes of olives supplied as a small gesture - the meal was recooked from scratch, so took a little time to return. The desserts were also excellent, and I can definitely recommend that you leave some space in your stomach for them. If I have any gripe about the food, however, it's that the portions are perhaps a little less than I'd eat normally, but I do tend to eat a lot.The thing I've not focussed on here is the decor. Partly because it was, back in April, pretty poor, but also because it's being redone for September 2002. The plastic chairs and diner-style tablecloths didn't do the food justice. Having said that, they weren't overly brash, or vastly out of place - and are reflected in the reasonable prices for the food. Even the wine was about 33% lower in price than I've paid in other Italian restaurants (back up North, in fact), for exactly the same wine.

Great Food spolt by very bad service - review added on Thu 19th May 2005

I booked this for my husbands birthday as I thought that with that with it being an Italian restaurant they would not mind me bringing our 7-year old daughter. When we arrived, the first thing that we were told was that our table was double-booked and we had to be out by 8PM (we arrived at 7PM!) - even though I had pre-booked the table. We felt rushed, and did not feel we could relax at all.The food WAS good, but we would not return - goes to prove - service counts far more than food/ambience, etc.
