Customer Reviews for Maida - London

Average - review added on Thu 31st May 2007

Went to Maida in Bethnal Green, and on first impression it looked nice and had a nice family vibe. I went with some friends and we felt it was a good balance between a reserved family atmosphere and a lively place. The service was good, and the menu had lots of uniquely named dishes such as Kharai Masalay (coarse spices), however the food arrived after what seemed to be eternity, some dishes never arrived at all, and the food was cold, the lamb chops were the nicest tasting item we ordered, the naan were nice but i was very disappointed overall. The dishes were quite bland to be frankly honest. The non alcoholic cocktail tasted very weird (im a muslim and i dont drink, but it still tasted off). The deserts were just like the main course, disappointing to say the least. The ras malai tasted expired. We spent £20 each, which was ok.. Just as we were walking out the owner did his best to convince us to have a look downstairs and everything in order to entice us back... maybe better tasting food would have done the trick!! Tayyabs or Khans is far better for good food.

VERY POOR SERVICE - review added on Tue 16th Oct 2007

Placed a phone booking for the private dining area, which then was double booked, and one of staff named called back to say that I had to cancel my booking because of this, which was confirmed by himself at the outset. VERY DISAPPOINTING. Please book into other restaurants in the area where the customers will be treated fairly. Other staffs also failed to deal with my queries effectively.

Best Halal Restaurant - review added on Mon 3rd Dec 2007

Went with my family to dine at Maida, found about it from Web, the atmosphere was very welcoming, staff friendly, and we were quickly offered a high chair for my youngest. The Starters were very tasty, especially the Tandoori Lamb Chops and Murgh Malai Tikka, Really liked the Butter Chicken, and Lamb Roganjosh, and Chicken Chilli, and Lollipop Chicken. The restaurant is HMC approved Halal, and rooms for family, with telephone ordering ( we did not get one,as you have to book in advance, but there is no extra charge for it ). The dessert of Maida Brownie sizzler was yummy, a concoction of Brownie and Icecream on a sizzling iron, and the Lavazza and Oreo Cookie milkshake was sublime, but very filling. Would definitely recommned, It will be my regular from now on.

Went there with friends on saturday 1st Dec 07. The restaurant was very busy and did not had seats available for us but were told to wait for 20 minutes. We went and came back after 25 minutes and the table was ready for us. Very impressed with the service, ambience and food. Will go again.
