Disappointing Night - review added on Sun 26th Feb 2006
We were part of a table of eleven who ate at Poppadom express last night. This is the place to come if you like packet poppadums and yucky dips, burned nam breads with glacier cherrys in them, or no meat in Keema nam. The place for a chicken jalfrezzi with no chicken, Chicken korma that tastes like a Asda special with loads of salt. If you like salt come here because everything was salty even the Pashwari nams it must be the chefs ingredient here. Come here if you like a hot humid atmosphere with condensation running down the windows. I think this is one of the worst Indian meals i have had in Southampton.

Bit Disappointing - review added on Mon 2nd Oct 2006
First, the poppadoms were overdone, and tasted like they were from a supermarket. Don't call yourself Poppadom Express if your poppadoms are not freshly made! Our starter arrived when we were still eating our poppadoms (we only had one each and were eating them quite quickly!). I had onion bhajis. They looked great, really big and crispy. I was disappointed that they were served with a red sauce (don’t know it’s name) as I’m not keen on it. A wedge of lemon would have been nice too. Still, not the end of the world. I tucked in and at first it was pretty tasty. In the centre however the taste was not so good. I think that they were too big to cook through properly. I prefer it when they are not so sticky inside, but I can live with it. What I objected to was that the onion inside was really tough. Not quite sure how they managed that as even raw onion is crispy!Main course was really nothing special, in fact a little bland. The meat was tender though, and the rice was nice and fluffy. The naan could have been great, the crispy and soft texture was the best I’ve had for a long time. Unfortunately the taste did not match up to the texture, it was also bland, a bit like it was just made with flour and water and nothing else. The service was good, even though they were busy. The atmosphere and decor was also good, although quite lively and perhaps not great for a romantic evening.Over all, it wasn’t terrible. However it was a bit more expensive than more traditional Indian restaurants and the food quality did not justify this.

Delicious Food and Great Service. - review added on Sun 25th Nov 2007
Poppadom Express certainly lived up to its claim of offering the best Indian outside India. We had a great night out on Tuesday, particularly enticing as they offer a 50% discount on food every Tuesday night.
