Excellent Fish - review added on Sun 20th Jan 2002
Don't let the location on sea front amid tacky shops and amusment arcades fool you. The fish is very fresh and well prepared. The location and the interior don't really do justice to the food. If you are looking for food which is as good as a much more expensive place go there. If you are looking for a sophisticated atmosphere skip it. I can't recommend a specific dish as most stuff is seasonal.

Tourist trash - review added on Mon 6th Dec 2004
If you don't mind paying close to £25 for 2 X haddock (full of bones and covered in a foul tasting mushy batter), soggy chips and yellowy coloured mushy peas, stale bead and two lots of tea then you'll enjoy it. It's on the seafront and undoubtably designed for tourists, no wonder locals don't eat there!

Excellent Place - review added on Sat 23rd Jul 2005
Tourist trash? I don't think so. The fish is as good and as fresh as you will get anywhere. If you go late on at night then you'll find a lot of the dishes are off the menu cos they have run out a fish...excellent indication that the stuff really is sourced from across the road daily.I go every time I visit Scarborough and I am always impressed. Couldn't comment on the Haddock and Chips...never had them...but the whole bream on stir fried veggies was sublime. Its funny, my father was a boy in Scarborough when the Golden Grid openned...he has never been in because he says it is tourist trash. Still, he wouldn't know a good restaurant if it slapped him round the chops with a wet fish.
