Customer Reviews for Wrea Head Country Hotel - Scarborough

Hit And Miss. - review added on Sun 22nd Apr 2007

On arrival, the building is spectacular and we were shown into a vast suite of rooms; the soft furnishings were opulent and the rooms well furnished if a little oddly laid out with the ensuite between the sitting room and the bedroom - so you dont need to be a privacy freak! We enjoyed a pre-dinner stroll through the lovely grounds. The dinner menu was a prix fixe at £25.My husband and our two friends opted for the fillet steak for which there was a £9+p.p. supplement. On arrival, none of the steaks were cooked as requested and the pepper sauce left a deal to be desired. The thing, however, which rendered these dishes inedible was the chips Yuck! The oil in which they had been cooked had obviously seen better days and the chips had that horrible acrid taste and smell.I cannot fault the staff. They changed all three meals for something different without quibble and gave us a complimentary bottle of wine.On returning to our apartment, it was just as well that I had over-indulged. When I got into bed after removing the slinky bedspread, there was no cover on the duvet. I was flabbergasted, but too tired to do anything about it. I know we had top and bottom sheets, but come on, who does not put a cover on a duvet? There were several other little things which could so easily have been rectified - no batteries in the t.v. remote control, a dodgy kettle with an unsuitable lead and an ageing shower cabinet with door extremely difficult to open and a thick layer of dust on the occasional tables in the sitting room. Our friends' room was also very pleasantly furnished, but, apparently the bed and, particularly, the pillows were as hard as a brick. On telling this to the chambermaid the following morning, she agreed! If they know they are not good why don't they change them?Breakfast was very good and once again, the staff were excellent. This is a lovely hotel with good staff.Just a little more kitchen housekeeping with regard to how long you can use oil is required. A word in the ear of the housekeeper too, would not go amiss.
