Great restaurant needs tweaking - review added on Mon 4th Apr 2005
A night without the kids led us to this restaurant. Prices were at the top end but the food was superb with Yorkshire portions. None of the southern softie of nouvelle cuisine - excuse me - I have eaten! How could it be improved? More wines at the £13-£20 mark and some half bottles. For food of this quality I like to choose wine according to the dish. Difficult if she who must be obeyed is have fish and I was having the simply melt in the mouth fillet steak. With the starters we would have had a bottle of white and half of red.I think they felt no one could make the desert course. The puds were sadly lacking - a fresh fruit salad, sorbet or creme brullee would have finished the meal a treat.

Overpriced - review added on Tue 18th Jul 2006
I think this restaurant is living off of a reputation built up years ago but it seems to be failing to live up to it now. We arrived as a group of 6 to be met by a sarcastic manager who actually used the 'F-word' to us as we walked in. All dishes were priced at £19.95. I chose the 'Legendary' prawn coctail. Nothing more than a standard prawn cocktail with extra prawns. I then went for the surf and turf, medium rare. 3 of us ordered the same and all 3 steaks came back cooked differently, mine was rare so was sent back. Upon return it was well done and chewy so I didn't eat 1/2 of it. All I got was a small apology and I had to push for a 50% discount. The other dishes were tasty and cooked well but definately not worth the price and ot what you'd expect from a 'Specialist steak and seafood restaurant' Wine very expensive. House 15.95 and the rest upwards of £18. Wouldn't go back

Perfection - Guaranteed - review added on Sat 10th Feb 2007
I turned up at the waterfront restaurant on a busy Saturday night around 7ish and was greeted by a happy member of staff who took me to my table overlooking the river. I was given fresh bread on arrival and was talked through the specials and menu. I ordered a good bottle of house red wine a full bodied Spanish wine reasonably priced at £15.95 and a jug of tap water. Then the FOOD: I went for the prawn cocktail beautiful fresh prawns served on a bed of fresh leaves with the sauce to the side so you could taste the prawns, they always say when fish is good you don’t need to hide it all you need is a wedge of lemon and they were right the portion was big enough for all three of us to share – yep its one thing you get in here big portions so beware!. then onto the main I went for a surf and turf cooked to perfection I order rare, on making my order the waitress point out that the chef always under cooks as everyone’s opinions of blue rare and medium are so different she said if I needed it putting on a bit longer they would do so.. No extra money to fork out for veg and chips because it’s inclusive.. it came the steak was so tender all I needed was a butter knife, king prawns were served on top with garlic butter and we got homemade chips and mash, carrots, broccoli, new potatoes… I was too full for a sweet so opted for a Irish whisky and sat back relaxed with my good friends, good music they are Bruce Springsteen mad !! And enjoyed the rest of our evening... I will defiantly be back
