Customer Reviews for Harry Ramsden's - Nottingham

Real chips! - review added on Sun 2nd Jul 2000

Harry Ramsden's is my brother's favourite restaurant in Nottingham! He always picks it when given the option of eating out for his birthday etc.Basically it specialises in making Fish and Chips, and this specialism pays off. There are very few local chip shops that come close.Part of this I'm sure is that apparently the chips are cooked in animal fat. (not ideal for veggies then ;)The fish is apparently very tasty(this is from my brother/dad, personally I can't stand fish/seafood and always have the sausage)Quote: Woah, this is as good as that Chip Shop in Driffield.(reference to quite possibly the best chippy I have ever been to, if you've been there, you'll understand)

What Rubbish Food. - review added on Thu 13th Sep 2001

I am sorry but I think your food was the worst I had at a restaurant ever. I ate there last Wednesday, and I ate cod and chips. I thought I would go for the safest option, but in the end I got the worst food. The fish was dry and not cooked properly, and the chips were hard. I'm ever so sorry to inform you of this but I thought you should know.[edited for use of English]

The worst Fish and Chips I've ever had - review added on Mon 29th Jul 2002

I ate at Harry Ramsdens in Nottingham on July 15th 2002 and was served up with the worst Fish and Chips I have had in 40 years. Seriously overcooked fish and the chips were not much better. Pathetic for a restaurant that specialises in this type of food.

Corporate Greed! - review added on Thu 7th Nov 2002

When Harry Ramsden's was a single restaurant in Guiseley, run by Eddie Stokes and his wife, it was a wonderful establishment. Unfortunately, since the takeover and expansion by a greedy capitalist corporation, it has lost its previously unique character and become yet another crap 'Macdonalds' equivalent. And I issue no apology for saying this; the truth requires none.

Sad - review added on Mon 3rd Nov 2003

It arrived here with a great reputation and years of tradition. Now, it is merely an average fish and chip shop with seating. How sad.

A Complete Disappointment - review added on Thu 19th Feb 2004

My partner and I ate at the Nottingham Restaurant on 16 February 2004, what a disappointment it was. I have used this restaurant since it first opened and have always been pleased. Somewhere a long the line they seem to have lost the plot. I had scampi and chips, my partner had cod and chips. His fish was all batter and very little dry fish, my scampi was under cooked and wet. The chips and mushy peas were cold. They did change my partners cod for another piece of fish, but this too was in the same condition. Needless to say we won't be going back.

Yuk - review added on Sun 14th Mar 2004

I am a fish and chip lover but Harry Ramsden in Nottingham serves very very poor quality fish and chips. Even the bread is hard like cardboard. When this restaurant first opened about 10 years ago, the quality was good (they even had people waiting in the bar for a table). Go now and the place is empty. Get it right or close up I say.

Disgraceful. - review added on Mon 20th Mar 2006

Blackpool restaurant should be closed. We were served frozen battered fish which was overcooked, frozen fishcakes, and dry bread. They have completely ruined what used to be an excellent place to eat. If there ever was a Harry Ramsden, he will be turning in his grave!

Inconsistent - review added on Sat 5th Aug 2006

You never know what to expect at Harry Ramsdens in Nottigham Sometimes the sevice is very good, and sometimes VERY poor. You should not have to wait, as it is usually nearly empty in the evenings.Other diners did not look like happy eaters. Pity that it's like this, what would Harry say?

Inconsistent. - review added on Fri 9th Mar 2007

I have had very good fish and chips here but have also had terrible fish and chips here. It seems that the management is very poor and the place is run by the staff. The turnover of staff is vey high. Very slow service in the takeaway section - expect to wait at least 15 minutes for your order.

Rubbish - review added on Sat 18th Aug 2007

Harrys at eastbourne was the worst cod and chips my wife and I have had. The chips were all bits only a few proper chips, but the fish was so small and thin and badly cooked it made a fish finger look good and the price was extortionate!!
