Customer Reviews for Popjoy's Restaurant - Bath

Funny name great restaurant - review added on Wed 30th Jun 2004

we wanted a formal dining experience which was at the top end of the price scale and which would leave us wanting to return, and we got it. I love eating in upmarket restaurants when people just stroll in off the streets hoping to get a table only to be refused, it makes me feel special and also that i did well to book in advance. i also love it when the menu is not mass produced and laminated, it tells me that the food has been planned and that the menu changes to give the best flavours and produce of the season and is not comming from a wholesaler ready prepared. Also when there are just four starters and five main courses it tells me the chef can concentrate on preparing these dishes perfectly, i was not dissopointed and neither will you be. I had the lobster and crab bisqe with a hot crusty roll and my partner had the duck and pidgeon terrine with a spicey chutney which complimented it perfectly and was a decent sized portion . both were as delicious as anticipated. Then we both had the fillet steak which was cooked exactly as we had asked (quite a rareaty in other restaurants) served with a rich lip smacking red wine sauce and we ordered gratin dauphinoise to accompany which i am still dreaming about.then just to be a piggy i ordered the sampler plate of desserts and i am so glad i did as i couldn't have decided which one to have, so hay, i had a taste of the all.I would just like to add that the staff were amazing, attentive yet unobtrusive.
