Mouthwatering Delights at the Old Malt House - review added on Sat 20th Sep 2003
An extremely enjoyable evening was had at the Old Malt House Hotel and Restaurant in Radford, just 6 miles south of Bath, UK. We were met with a very warm welcome from co-proprietor Tim, who was serving drinks in the comfortable lounge bar. After placing our order, we were escorted to the Restaurant by a very pleasant young waitress who carried our drinks for us. The restaurant is simply decorated with a beautiful wooden floor, all wooden tables and chairs and a deep red walls, set off by mirrors and lots of candles. The food was exceptional, I understand it to be prepared by Tim's wife Jo. I had the Goat's Cheese Bruschetta which was dressed with watercress and a tangy sauce. This was followed by the Malt House Pork - I've never tasted Pork so tender, obviously very slowly cooked in mustard, cream and mushrooms. I didn't have a dessert, but those of my friends looked superb. We finished up with coffee, back in the lounge bar, and settled our bill, which I add was very reasonable! I will definitely be retuning to the Old Malt House Hotel.

Thank You Clarky. - review added on Wed 30th Jun 2004
After reading the review above we decided to dine at the Old Malt House and see for ourselves. Well we were not disappointed. As a trained chef I am very hard to please and drive my hubby crazy. I usually feel I could have done better, well not this time. Great wholesome, homemade food. Our starters were delicious. The bruschetta was as expected from Clarky's review and the deep fried Camembert was crispy/runny/hot and perfectly accompanied by the homemade chutney. We both ordered the pork and it was super really tender and with plenty of sauce (a personal gripe of mine, why do chefs skimp on sauces?). Even the chips were perfect. As for puddings, it was the homemade sticky toffee pudding which swayed our decision to visit in the first place, and it was worth the drive just to taste it. I had the forest fruits brandy snap basket and it was sweet, and tart, and filled with thickly whipped cream, wow. I was particularly naughty and had a spoon full of hubbys toffee sauce on top which i have to say really complimented the fruits (see, I told you I was never satisfied). Joking aside we were very pleased and I have to say we were not staying at the hotel but after reading the guest book and eating the food we shall be returning with baggy clothing and an overnight bag just to see if the breakfasts are as great as the dinners.
