Applecross Inn - Applecross, Highlands

Description

The Applecross Peninsula is home to just 238 people and the Applecross Inn. It is best approached from the A896 by the 2,053’ road called the Bealach na Ba, if the cloud has lifted, you’ll see the kind of views normally reserved only for sweaty mountaineers. The easier route from the A896 involves a beautiful 20 mile drive around the coast of the peninsula from Shieldaig.
The Inn serves some of the best (mainly) seafood you will ever find and a good wine list. They also serve a good range of local beers. You can stay there too in one of seven rooms all overlooking Applecross Bay for £25-30 per person.

Beautiful setting and food - review added on

The Inn serves some of the best (mainly) seafood you will ever find and a good wine list. They also serve a good range of local beers. You can stay there too in one of seven rooms all overlooking Applecross Bay for £25-30 per person. There are no pretentions about the place, it is simple inn that serves excellent food in a beautiful setting. Judith Fish, owner of the Applecross Inn since 1989, says "I can make all kinds of extravagant claims for my inn, but the opinions which matter are those of my guests"- those are documented on the website. We went there for lunch on Sunday 27 June 2004 just just for a few hours, but it’s an experience we'll remember for years.

Magical Moment - review added on Wed 8th Sep 2004

My husband and I honeymooned in Scotland last October. We happened upon the Applecross Inn by accident. A local in Skye told us it was just over the hill. If anyone has driven over Bealoch na Ba, you know hill is an understatement. It is well worth the amazing scenery this drive shared with us. What we found at the Applecross Inn was a little piece of Heaven. My husband and I sipped our beer while sat at the picnic tables along the beach. We took in the fantastic views of the water and mountains. The weather was perfect; warm sun, soft breezes and crisp air. When our smoked salmon platter was brought to us we knew we were in for a treat. The salmon was in the shape of roses! My husband ordered the Venison Sausages. They were divine...melting in our mouths. I ordered the monkfish in a spinach sauce. It had just the right flavoring. Even though we were quite full, we had to order dessert. Raspberry Cranachan is bliss on a plate. A sweet combination of berries, cream, merange and oats tickled our tongues. We were sure to speak with the chef and tell her how wonderful everything was. Eating at the Applecross Inn was one of the highlights of our honeymoon.
