What a Fantastic Place - review added on Tue 24th Apr 2001

Possibly one of the best meals I have ever had. The blinis were mouthwateringly delicious and coupled with the black bread, they just blew me away. The main course was amazing, beef with prunes, served in a little pot. Flavours that I hadn't experienced before, ever. When the pudding came I was waiting for someone to wake me from my dream. We finished off with a Vodka, smooth and warm - Wow! That's it, I'm hooked, I'm coming back as soon as I can. I did try to peek at the chef, but I couldn't see any angels in the kitchen, because heaven must be missing their best cook! We will be coming up from London as often as we can - get our table ready! Spasiba (I think that is how you spell it). Thanks for a brilliant night.

The Best Restaurant in Liverpool - review added on Fri 23rd Nov 2001

As a regular, I'm a little bit biased, but this really is one of the best restaurants I have ever frequented in my life. I won't try and spell it, but the pork baked in the oven with cream, apple and cheese is simply out of this world. And as for the crab blinis...well!

Gem of a Find - review added on Sun 3rd Nov 2002

I was initially a bit wary of this restaurant, especially when you have to knock on the front door to get in! But we had a fabulous meal last night; we love trying something different and it doesn't come any more different than this place. The starter was filling enough as a main course, chicken borsch with a full fillet of chicken in a pot. My main course, Flamin Rasputin, was to die for; I was unable to eat a dessert as the portions are plentiful. Will definitely return, soon!

Superb St Petersburg - review added on Fri 25th Jul 2003

I went to the St Peterburg Restaurant for my birthday (22nd June 03) and it was one of my best birthdays yet. The food was absolutely gorgeous. I had chicken, mushroom and noodle soup to start, then I had pork Stroganoff and I finished with some ice cream. I tried a salmon blini (pancake) which was delicious even though i am not a big eater of salmon. The are lots of different blini's to choose from. I had quite a few flavoured Vodka's including, strawberry, melon, lemon, apple, plum, orange and a small taste of my parents they are well worth it. The Russian beer is very nice. The waiters are very nice and do everything to make your meal enjoyable. As it was my birthday my dad went to the restaurant the day before and gave them a birthday cake at the end of the meal the waiter brought it out with the candles lit singing happy birthday which was very nice. The best time to book your table for is probable between 8 - 9 as the entertainment starts at about 8.30. The only problem is that if you are in a wheelchair you will not be able to access the restaurant as it is up a flight of stairs and there is no lift. When booking your table ask for a table in the downstairs restaurant as it is where the entertainment is. The are three floors.

Birthday Dinner - review added on Tue 11th Nov 2003

I live in the United States in Washington State, not too far from the Canadian border, and just recently I was back in the UK to see my son and daughter and my young grandson. As a birthday treat for myself I took the kids and their partners out to dinner on October 25th, and I followed my daughter's suggestion of dinner (on me!) at St. Petersburg. She'd told me that it was superb, judging from her friends' comments, and I agree totally and absolutely. The food was just wonderful, the staff there were friendly and fun, the music actually had my elderly (57) feet tapping and I didn't want to leave. Alas, we had to, but I can absolutely promise that when I fly back over I'll be there, even if I have to crawl. I am a food writer for a local newspaper here in Longview, WA, and my next column due out on November 19th will be devoted to all the good food I had on my trip. I should add that I am not American, just an ex-pat Scouser living too far away. Grace Reade.

What a D(M)eal - review added on Fri 20th Feb 2004

I remember it was my colleagues Stag party we went pub hoping all around Liverpool and then landed at St. Petersburg. A lotus in a pond, surround by dilapidated old buildings, this was a fantastic find. I don't recollect what I ate but I remember that mouth watering taste, the ambience and the service - all excellent. When I am back in Liverpool some day you can find me at this place for sure.

Won't Go Back - review added on Tue 11th Apr 2006

Took my son, his girlfriend and my wife for a meal. Son and GF thought it was ok, but wife just laughed. The meal would have taken 2 months of her salary to pay for it, and was no different than the food I ate with her family. I guess when you are saturated with Indian and Italian, a change is as good as a rest.
