Maybe we shouldn't have gone twice - review added on Wed 26th Apr 2000

If we’d visited just once Raajpoot would be going head to head with Bengal Brasserie as the best in Bath - the food and decor is great. As it was the second time we went in a group and I think they thought we were students, which of course is no reason to give small portions and bad service. They dealt with the complaint well and brought out more portions of the offending dishes to make up for it to be fair, and I would still recommend.

Big Disappointment - review added on Fri 8th Sep 2006

We first visited Rajpoot last year and were impressed - it was quite expensive but the food was excellent.We weren's so lucky last night. We started with poppadoms, chutney and lime pickle. We ordered a Chicken Jhal Noorpuri which claimed to be cooked with 'rarely found herbs and green chillies'. There were no green chillies in the dish and the taste was unmistakably that of chilli powder and out-of-date masalas. The manager told us that it was 'ground green chillies' but we weren't fooled. And he didn't seem to care that we were unsatisfied. The meat was tough and the flavours weren't very complex. Just a sharp chilli heat and some muted uninspiring spices.We also had a lamb mughlai. Again, the spices were dull and the lamb was tough and flavourless. The cheese in our Mutter Paneer was hard and overly chewy.At the end of our meal we were brought flannels which were almost cold - and instant coffee.The bill came to fifty quid for us both, for a meal which was bad and overpriced. OK for well-heeled students with unsophisticated palates but would avoid if you're looking for complex flavours and good service.
