Couldn’t resist a ‘2 meals for £5’ sign and went in. We both went for the option of Burger and Fries but differing on the toppings - chilli and cheese. The surprise was that the food was great, and there was lots of it. Plenty of crisp fries, a burger that was well beyond the stated quarter pound and (the only disappointment) a coleslaw and side salad that had obviously been around a very long time. The toppings for the burgers were the biggest revelation. The cheese wasn’t the usual slice of processed plastic but a generous amount of cheddar, melted to perfection over a burger that tasted as if it was freshly made, or at least made out of mincemeat in a telltale not-quite-perfect shape. The chilli topping wasn’t a sauce but an extremely generous amount of chilli con carne. My partner found the thought of this extremely unappetising but I loved it. Mincemeat topped with mincemeat. Perfect. Fast service. Nice pub.
