Tallowwood Creek Colombard 2005
Tallowwood Creek Colombard 2005 - £5.69
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
If you want something crisp, fruity and very sippable, then Tallowwood Creek Colombard is just the tipple ... almost Sauvignon-like in style but not so over powering. Tallowwood is part of the Beelgara Estate in the centre of New South Wales's Riverina wine region. Founded over 60 years ago it is now owned and run by dynamic winemaker Bob Berton who has invested heavily in both the cellar and the vineyards. And the Colombard grape - originally from France's rural Gascony where it was used to make Armagnac - produces mouthwatering, citrussy whites like this, under the Aussie sun. Light straw in colour, juicy tropical fruit with hints of freshly sliced green pepper notes. Perfect with Thai chicken curry.

Wildekloof Colombard 2005
Wildekloof Colombard 2005 - £5.69
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
South Africa now matches the Loire Valley for vibrant, zesty whites of sheer quality and flavour and is still unbeatable for value. This deliciously fresh white comes from the winery that won the most awards at the Veritas competition last year (Veritas is South Africa's most prestigious wine competition). In fact, it was made by a young winemaker who's just won a coveted Champion Chenin Trophy too! Lively citrus fruit aromas leap from the glass. Waves of zingy lemon and green apple freshness lead to a terrifically pure finish. Fantastic as an aperitif or as an accompaniment to grilled salmon steak or a crisp green salad.

Quinta do Casal Branco Fern?o Pires 2005 - £5.69
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
From the native Fern?o Pires, an arrestingly, perfumed white grape grown along the River Tagus, this citrus-charged white is the perfect choice for everyday drinking. The temperate climate by the River Tagus makes Ribatejano one of the key wine regions in Portugal - home of the oldest appellation system in the world. Flowers, apple and spice aromas with lime and tropical fruit flavours. Elegantly refreshing. Ideal as an aperitif or with grilled fish and Asian cuisine.

Brezza Bianca
Brezza Bianca - £5.69
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Each year in northern Italy's Fruili region - regardless of how great the vintage is - only a fixed amount of wine can be labeled Grave del Friuli DOC. Never ones to let great things go to waste, we asked our favourite Pinot Grigio cellar to rescue their finest 'declassified' fruit and make you a truly mouthwatering white. ''Fresh and mouthwatering with enticing aromas and crisp citrus flavours. Delicious with shrimps, salmon or - for the more adventurous - chicken with ginger''

La Mancha is an up-and-coming region south of Madrid and is known as the country's New World. It's attracting big name investment because of the abundant, remote land and seriously old vines - the sort that would cost far more in Rioja. Made from 100% Macabeo - the great white grape of Rioja - this minerally-fresh white is bursting with elegant stone fruit flavours. La Roche Dame is a perfect reflection of the refreshing and vibrant flavours of the Loire's delicious 2006 vintage. Crisp and refreshing, this mouthwatering Sauvignon is a great alternative to high-priced Sancerre and Pouilly Fume. Our old friend Noel Bougrier's family have been at the centre of top-quality Loire winemaking for generations. When Noel surveyed the 2006 crop on his single Sauvignon vineyard, he reserved the entire harvest and called us immediately! La Roche Dame is a must-have white with vibrant, citrus-charged freshness and intense fruit-quality. Pale yellow with entincing aromas of grapefruit, elderflower and a fresh, grassy herbaceousness. Perfect as an aperitif or with seafood.

Domaine de Guiron 2006 - £5.79

Monsieur La Cave's Domaine de Guiron nestles in the heart of rural Gascony. Thanks to the estate's gentle south-facing slopes, the vines stay nice and thirsty helping to create zippy, concentrated flavours in the grapes. Colombard is the traditional grape of the region and produces delicious, fresh green-apple flavour - whilst Ugni Blanc adds a little 'grassy' depth. Vibrant gooseberry and lemongrass aromas with a hint of grapefruit. Elegant, fresh green apple character, and intense citrusy freshness. Lovely on its own and a real crowd-pleaser at parties too. Ramirez de Velazco Torrontes 2007

Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Having claimed Torrontes as its own, Argentina has not rested on its laurels. It is gradually turning this little known grape into a sought-after household name. This is thanks in no small part to the country's rapidly improving winemaking expertise and massive investment in its wineries. Increasingly, Argentina is the place to look for ''good value wines with unique flavours'' (Drinks Business). Surrounded by snow-capped peaks, the vineyards for Ramirez de Velazco Torrontes lie in the La Rioja region, which enjoys warm days and cool, dry nights ... with plenty of melt water available for irrigation, the conditions are near ideal for the vines and shows through in the intense, pure fruit flavours. Reina de la Vendimia Chenin 2007 - £5.79
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Freshly sliced apple and citrus-flavoured Chenin Blanc made by Rodolfo Sadler - one of Argentina's top winemakers. The wine itself is named in honour of the annual Vendimia, or harvest festival, when thousands of dancers group together to celebrate the grape harvest in an open air theatre in Mendoza - Argentinia's 'city of wine'. At the end of the night, into the small hours, the voting takes place for the year's Harvest Queen - ''La Reina de la Vendimia''. Our buyer Thomas, who was there this year, says ''it's probably the biggest vintage festival in the world!'' Grown in high altitude vineyards, the grapes are seriously concentrated - the warm days and cool nights in the Andes help retain the crisp fruit flavours. Pale yellow in the glass, with light apple and citrus aromas, Delicate and just off dry, but with a wonderfully refreshing, crisp finish. A fantastic match for white fish or seafood dishes. One to impress your guests with!

Villa Fiori Bianco
Villa Fiori Bianco - £5.79
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Made from a mouthwatering combination of Sicilian Greganico and rounded Chardonnay from Italy's Abruzzan coast - this whistle-clean white is one of the best-value wines in our cellars! Young winemaker Scipione Giuliani was keen to make a blend he liked (subject to our approval!) and not be constrained by appellation laws, hence the humble Vino di Tavola status. Excellent with fish in lemony sauces (or just to perk up the cold turkey platter), Villa Fiori's pale lemon colour exudes a simple slightly grassy nose and has a fresh, clean palate, hinting of ripe, floral peach. Very good as a lunchtime aperitif too.

Villa Mare Bianco

This gorgeous, green apple-fresh Italian is the ideal sunny afternoon quaffer. Made from a mouthwatering blend of local speciality grapes plus a dash of melony Chardonnay - it's great value for money! That's because the grapes are sourced from top vineyards in both Sicily and Italy's high Abruzzi hills - hence the humble Vino da Tavola tag. One sip and you'll agree it should cost much more. Crafted by talented young winemaker Scipione Giuliani ... the man behind your No.1 most reordered red, Il Papavero! Bright yellow in colour. Simple peachy and slightly grassy nose with a fresh, clean palate, hints of ripe peach and slight floral tones. Supremely quaffable at a great price.

Cavazzola
Cavazzola - £5.79
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Crisp and elegant cool-climate white from the same cellar as our priciest, top-flight Pinot Grigio. Do not be fooled by Cavazzola's humble Vino da Tavola status - it's made from 100% Grave del Friuli DOC grapes ... only 'declassified'! Outdated winemaking rules only permit a certain number of bottles to be granted DOC status each year - a problem for wineries in bumper years ... but a real chance for a bargain for canny buyers. Opulent, fragrant nose of orange, lemon and pineapple, followed by mouthwateringly fresh crisp citrus flavours and a tingly mineral finish.

Il Papavero Bianco
Il Papavero Bianco - £5.79
