Andrew Garrett Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2006
Andrew Garrett Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2006 - £8.99
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
This leading Aussie winery produces ''excellent wine - at great value'' (James Halliday) and is among a diligent few who can bring out the best from Sauvignon in the Aussie heat. Veterans of the Australian wine industry - Stephen Obst and Ivan Limb - have over the years worked for some of the biggest names in Oz, but have now decided to go solo. Andrew Garrett Sauvignon is made purely from grapes grown at their own vineyard on the tough, rocky soil of Waikeri. This crisp, succulent gem is a match for pricier New Zealand rivals, tangy and rich with a lovely balance of fresh lime, peach notes and a slightly spicy edge. Enjoy as an aperitif or serve chilled with a tomato and goats cheese tart.

Gran Valle de Niebla Sauvignon Blanc 2006
Gran Valle de Niebla Sauvignon Blanc 2006 - £8.99
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Here's a white of fabulous intensity and distinction from the remarkably talented Adolfo Hurtado, whose dedication to innovation and quality has earnt him worldwide acclaim as one of the finest winemakers in Chile. As a result, his top cuvees can command upward of #15 a bottle! But not for old friends ... we've worked with Adolfo for years, and he's happy to give you first taste of his piercingly fresh Sauvignon. It's made from the fruit of meticulously selected vineyard plots in the Great Valley of Fog (Gran Valle de Niebla) where foggy mornings allow grapes to ripen perfectly, whilst retaining the crisp citrus freshness - a hallmark of world-class Sauvignon. ''Long-lasting flavours of zesty lime and gooseberry. Crisp and pure, it makes an excellent aperitif and excels with grilled fish or salads.''

Domaine de Villegeai 2006
Domaine de Villegeai 2006 - £8.99

Brothers Francois and Michel Quinton have turned little Domaine de Villegeai into a very sought-after Loire name. Celebrated - yet little-known - Coteaux du Giennois sits across the river from Sancerre and offers supreme value. Outstanding quality has seen the area recently awarded Appellation Controlee status, but for now prices remain in your favour. With 2006, a ''terrific vintage'' (Joanna Simon), now's the time to sample this mouthwatering Sauvignon. ''Bright straw colour with leap-from-the-glass aromas of gooseberry and lime and a touch of the flintiness that hallmarks top Loire whites. Concentrated lemon and grapefruit flavours and fresh, minerally notes. A Loire classic to savour ... as an aperitif, or alongside Dover sole and other fine seafood dishes.''

Casella Family Reserve Limited Release Pinot Grigio 2006
Casella Family Reserve Limited Release Pinot Grigio 2006 - £8.99
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
''The Australian wine scene is now mad about Pinot Grigio,'' writes Jancis Robinson in the FT. Which makes it virtually impossible to bring fantastic parcels back to the UK - unless you have great contacts. Step forward John Casella, a winemaking genius we first met more than a decade ago when he was at Sam Trimboli's 250-medal-a-year Riverina Estate. Now he's running the family winery, where he has a small vineyard of specially planted Pinot Grigio vines from which he crafts this thirst-quenching gem. Apple, pear and lime aromas and floral notes too. Lovely and round with tangy, citrus and grapefruit flavours. Totally dry with complex minerally notes. The perfect partner for aromatic Thai dishes. Rich, concentrated but be warned ... very little to go round, so get in quick.

Dezzani I Morelli 2006
Dezzani I Morelli 2006 - £9.19
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Innocently light ... this glorious discovery comes from the hills of Piedmont. It has oceans of fruit flavour and a little bit of everything else that's delicious - sparkle, sweetness, crispness ... and the featherlight touch of just 5% alcohol. Moscato d'Asti is not to be confused with simple Asti - this has much greater depth of flavour and finesse. And family-made, authentic gems like Dezzani Morelli seldom leave Italy - but look what happens when it does! Gold at the International Wine Challenge ... PLUS a successful showing at the Vintage Festival and glowing recommendations in The Guardian and The Telegraph. This is a pride and joy speciality of the Dezzani family. And, as one leading writer puts it: ''The amount of work going into producing Moscato d'Asti makes a mockery of the price.'' This is a genuine bargain ... you simply must try it! Perfect on its own or with fruit tarts.''

Hommage a Pierre Alexandre Jean-Marie Raimbault 2007
Hommage a Pierre Alexandre Jean-Marie Raimbault 2007 - £9.19
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.

Using fruit sourced from a premium single vineyard, winemaker Jean-Marie Raimbault has produced one of the most intense, mineral-rich whites you're likely to taste at this low price! You'd be forgiven for not knowing of Coteaux du Giennois. The Sancerre lookalikes made here are very rare indeed. The region is a stone's throw from Sancerre itself, and the outstanding quality here has seen it awarded Appellation Controlee status, but prices remain in your favour. Why? Winemakers are unable to rely on the name (as yet) to sell their wines, so the quality has to speak for itself - and it really does! Especially when the Raimbault team are in charge, lavishing Hommage a Pierre Alexandre with all the care of their top releases. Exceptionally fresh and packed with vibrant cut-grass, gooseberry and green-apple flavours, Hommage a Pierre Alexandre Jean-Marie Raimbault has a mouth-biting crispness that Sauvignon fans will adore!

Reserve de Gassac Grande Cuvee 2004
Reserve de Gassac Grande Cuvee 2004 - £9.29
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Aime Guibert's Mas de Daumas Gassac shot from obscurity 25 years ago to lead a thrilling quality revolution in southern France. His wines were hailed as 'a miracle'... experts debated whether it was more like Lafite or Latour...revered wine writer and Sotheby's expert Michael Broadbent described Aime's white as ''One of the top ten whites in the world.'' The Grande Cuvee is made from small patches of vines (mainly ripe, aromatic Sauvignon) growing amid the sparse southern stone and scrub. The wine's 'secret' is the careful use of intense but little-known local varieties and light barrel-ageing, lending exotic complexity and uniquely delicious flavours. Bright and herby. A fresher style of Gassac on the nose but the palate is familiar; exotic juicy southern weight and a strong finish. Terrific!

Emmanuel Dampt Chevalier d'Eon 2004
Emmanuel Dampt Chevalier d'Eon 2004 - £9.29
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Chevalier d'Eon is an inspirational Burgundy guests will love ... and they'll enjoy the story too! Tonnerre's wines were once favoured by the royal courts of Europe, introduced to them by the Chevalier, a passionate advoacte of Tonnerre wines ... and a secret agent of Louis XV who infiltrated these courts dressed as a woman. Following the turmoil of the French Revolution, the vineyards were abandoned. Then in the 1980s, Chablis winemaker Bernard Dampt replanted a wildly overgrown, once-sacred plot. Now his three sons (one of whom was recently voted Chablis's Young Winemaker of the Year) love making this special wine - and winning medals! Very Chablis like in style with aromas of citrus and sweet gooseberry leading to the full, round palate of great Burgundy. ''2004 is a great vintage for lovers of white Burgundy ... the wines are delicious - cool, fragrant, pure and fruity'' (Decanter).

He then aged the wine in fine French oak, just like they do for #20-a-bottle Condrieu. Fresh stone fruit and honey aromas, with a hint of blossom. Rich and full with a touch of cinnamon spice and vanilla from the oak ageing. A lovely partner to creamy fish or seafood dishes.
