Sturt and Hume Chenin Colombard 2006
Sturt and Hume Chenin Colombard 2006 - £6.15
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Named after two early 19th Century explorers (Sturt was the first explorer to venture along the Murray River), the Sturt & Hume range is a small selection of wines put together by the excellent ''Buronga Hill boys'' each year. Winemaker Matt Fawcett - who worked at Brown Bros for many years - created this crisp and refreshing Chenin Blanc with a splash of Colombard for added zest. In style it's a thoroughly modern Australian wine - unoaked and with beautifully defined fruit. At just 12% alcohol, it is deliberately more elegant than the big heavy Australian Chardonnays that have flooded the market in recent years.

Yallum Ridge Verdelho Semillon 2006
Yallum Ridge Verdelho Semillon 2006 - £6.15
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Made at the Buronga Hill winery near Mildura on the banks of the mighty Murray River, this mouth-watering white is the perfect marriage of crisp Verdelho and lemony Semillon. Verdelho is originally a Madeira grape variety but makes great dry white here in the sunny vineyards of Australia. Green-gold with honeyed nectarine aromas. Crisp lime and apricot make this delicious on its own, and ideal with grilled chicken.

Angove's Premium White Grenache 2006
Angove's Premium White Grenache 2006 - £6.15
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
For five generations the fiercely independent Angove family (now headed by the founder's great-grandson John) have bucked commercial trends in favour of top-quality, personality-filled wines ... an approach that has won them over 400 international awards in the last five years alone! With plantings of over 19 different grape varieties, the wine is famed for their rare wines. Traditionally grown in the Rhone, the Grenache grape is seldom seen in Australia. Planted over 25 years ago, their vines produced wonderfully rich fruit, full of flavour. Golden with crisp lemony citrus and extra juicy peach flavours, it's the perfect partner to grilled fish and Asian cuisine.

Campanula Pinot Grigio 2006
Campanula Pinot Grigio 2006 - £6.15
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Zesty citrus flavours, mouthwatering freshness and superb with food ... nothing beats top flight Pinot Grigio when it comes to all-round refreshment. Campanula offers unrivalled value for money and is a superb introduction to the historic vineyards of Hungary. Pinot Grigio is the nation's white ace - originally brought here by Italians and tasting just as good as its expensive Latin counterparts. We're delighted to have joined forces again with winemaker Gabor Laczko and secured the entire parcel of 2006 - no mean feat as his wines pick-up medals galore, attracting the attention of some serious rival buyers from the US and Italy. Aromas of fresh-cut grass, pear and grapefruit followed by refreshing citrus flavours and zesty acidity. Serve nicely chilled alongside tiger prawns or grilled salmon steaks.

Il Taglio
Il Taglio - £6.15
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Piedmont in northern Italy is best known for majestic reds like Barolo and Barbaresco and quality sparkling wines. But years ago, it was the 'still' white wines that stole the show. Il Taglio - Italian for 'The Cut', really is a cut above. Made from the same Muscat grape as the region's sparkling wines and bottled young to preserve its exceptional freshness, it's an amazing taste sensation: Aromas of fresh grapes, honey and citrus fruits. Crisp, zesty and very slightly off-dry. A wine that demands a second glass. This style of wine is not widely produced so little is ever exported beyond the Italian Riviera - just an hour away where it is avidly enjoyed by the glitterati. You don't have to own a yacht or an open-topped sports car, however, to appreciate its many charms. We can recommend taking inspiration from Omar Khayyam, chilling your bottle and finding a shady bough ...

Les Tourelles Viognier 2006
Les Tourelles Viognier 2006 - £6.15
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Seductive, golden Viognier from a dynamic cellar near Perpignan, Les Tourelles tastes like a top example from the Rhone ... yet costs a fraction of the price! ''Viognier, one of the world's most exotic and characterful grape varieties'' (The Sunday Times). And in the hands of a white wine specialist like Pierrick Harang (the cellar's dynamic young winemaker), fresh and fruit-packed too. Sumptuous and full of flavour with beguiling aromas of nectarine and honeysuckle. A superb choice for creamy pasta dishes and an indulgent glass all on its own.

Paolo Masi Poggerissi Rosso di Toscana 2005
Paolo Masi Poggerissi Rosso di Toscana 2005 - £6.15
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
The Masi family's Fattoria di Basciano estate is a shining beacon of quality and value in the rolling hills of Tuscany. Established by Paolo Masi's grandfather and name-sake in 1900 to make wine for the family, the estate now has a devoted following. Silky with fresh cherry fruit, this red slips down deliciously easily on its own. Like a good Chianti, it's great too with mid-weight dishes of chicken, herby roasted vegetables or risotto.

Domain Saint Orban Sauvignon Blanc 2006
Domain Saint Orban Sauvignon Blanc 2006 - £6.15
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Saint Orban, the patron saint of winegrowers, certainly seems to have been looking particularly favourably on this vintage. The third vintage of this thrilling Sauvignon is the best yet. Wine show judges praised its wonderfully classic cut grass, floral aromas. A zesty, gooseberry-fresh mouthful!

Grand Plessis Colombard Sauvignon 2006
Grand Plessis Colombard Sauvignon 2006 - £6.15
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
If you like Sauvignon, then try this Gold-medal Colombard, given the highest seal of approval by top French wine judges. Just like Sauvignon, this tongue-tingling Colombard gives you all the zippy citrus and gooseberry flavours of Sauvignon, but with delightful aromas blossom and freshly-mown grass. Light and refreshing, it's a fantastic aperitif.

Altos del Conde 2006
Altos del Conde 2006 - £6.15
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Located near the remote town of Horta St. Joan where Picasso used to paint, the mountains of the up-and-coming Terra Alta region in northern Spain are blessed with plenty of sunlight, warm days and cool nights. This excellent climate means that the white Macabeo (known as Viura in Rioja) and Chardonnay grapes give deliciously intense, fresh fruit flavours. These perfectly ripe grapes are then transformed by the expertise of multi award-winning winemaker Josep Guerrero into zesty, refreshing white wines like Altos del Conde. ''Packed full of zingy citrus fruit flavours, with a generous dash of tropical melon and peach from the Chardonnay. A delicious aperitif, this wine will also partner light chicken and fish dishes admirably.''

Domaine de Rhodes Roussanne 2006
Domaine de Rhodes Roussanne 2006 - £6.15
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Domaine de Rhodes is made in the style of white Chateauneuf-du-Pape. It boasts ripe stone fruit flavours, subtle oak plus a coveted Wine Challenge award - and tastes far more expensive than its humble #59.99 might suggest. That low price comes courtesy of our long association with the Barthe family, owners of Domaine de Rhodes for four generations. Their estate is blessed with precious rows of old Roussanne vines, a southern treasure that provides the backbone to white Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Early morning picking has preserved aromas and freshness in this mouthfilling white that recently out-performed many star names at the International Wine Challenge. Lovely golden colour gives a clue to the peachy aroma and ripe apricot and nectarine flavours which follow. Creamy and rich with a crisp finish. Brilliant with all kinds of seafood or chicken dishes.

Villa Icona Sangiovese 2006
Villa Icona Sangiovese 2006 - £6.15
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
From ''an estate every Italian wine lover should discover'' (Decanter) comes the stunning new vintage of this much-loved classic. The good news is that it still costs but a fraction of the price of the top Chianti Riservas it beat a few short years ago at the world's biggest wine competition! Unbeatable value, Villa Icona is made from the same grape as Chianti, but hails from the beautiful eastern coastal region of Le Marche that's starting to garner the rave reviews it deserves. The 2006 shows wonderful complexity of earthy, mineral notes and great vanilla and redcurrant fruit. Very lovely wine to serve with meaty pasta dishes from spaghetti to lasagne.

Loreto di Vestino 2006
Loreto di Vestino 2006 - £6.15
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Loreto di Vestino is a gorgeously authentic Italian red made by the great Ettore Galasso. His quality wines have delighted fans for years and you may recall how cock-a-hoop he was after the stunning 2004 Gold medal win in Tuscany. The black cherry Montepulciano grape is Ettore's speciality, a rich, warming grape of pure, lip-smacking drinkability. Which is why Signor Galasso and family enjoy a glass or two of 'Loreto' alongside their weekday meals. Unlike their flagship, barrel-aged 'Torre Galasso', Loreto di Vestina has not seen a splinter of oak. The grapes do however come from the same quality vineyards on the slopes around Vestina. This lighter, some might say more traditional style of Montepuliciano, is all juicy, soft red fruit, with aromas of violets and liquorice - and loaded with black cherries and forest berries.

Domaine Saint Felix 2006
Domaine Saint Felix 2006 - £6.15
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Domaine Saint Felix is a 19th century property with some of the most sought after vinyards in the Saint-Chinian appellation ... and one of the hottest young winemaking talents in the south of France! Maud Blanchard has won 14 top medals in the last three vintages alone and learned how to make great Chardonnay in California and Australia's Barossa Valley before returning to her native France. She was particularly pleased with the quality of the domaine's Chardonnay in 2006, a relatively cool vintage down here. Grapes were night-harvested to trap in even greater freshness and the wine bottled unoaked to let all those wonderful fruit flavours shine through. Guests will love you for sharing this! ''Enticing golden-green colour. Intense aromas of citrus and green apple lead onto a very elegant, deliciously zesty palate with a mouthwateringly crisp finish. Terrific aperitif.''

Quinta do Vale Perdido 2006
Quinta do Vale Perdido 2006 - £6.15
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Great news for those of you in search of a NEW white taste sensation! Quinta do Vale Perdido is a tongue-tingling find from Portugal. Imagine intensely flavoured Pinot Grigio plus a dash of refreshing Sauvignon. It's from Casa Santos Lima - a highly regarded family estate whose winemaker Jose Neiva Correia draws on Portugal's rich wine heritage whilst maintaining a modern outlook. To make this mouthwatering masterpiece, Jose Neiva adds a splash of finest Sauvignon Blanc to a thrilling blend of local varieties. The vines are planted in limestone soils - just like the world's finest white vineyards - which add a degree of minerality to this deliciously fresh, citrus-charged wine. ''A favourite in our tasting room, thanks to its attractive floral character and crisp green apple and citrus flavours, this vibrant, racy white makes a delicious aperitif. Lisbon locals would serve this with grilled sardines, seafood or asparagus.''

Paddle Wheel Colombard Chardonnay 2006
Paddle Wheel Colombard Chardonnay 2006 - £6.15
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
This deliciously fresh and fruity Aussie all-rounder is named in honour of the paddle steamer that travelled up the mighty Murray Darling River. In the early 19th Century this was the sole provider of the Angove Family winery's equipment and supplies. The secret to this mouthwatering wine was early-picking so the grapes kept their crispness - vitally important in the heat-wave 2006 vintage. ''Golden with lightly floral aromas of pineapple and green apples. Fresh juicy fruit flavours with a youthful edge. Great to quaff on it own; equally tasty with chicken, salmon or spicy vegetable stir-fry.''

Domaine Liboreau Chardonnay 2006
Domaine Liboreau Chardonnay 2006 - £6.15
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
A quiet tip-off back in 1996 alerted us to this small domaine, inland from the stylish medieval port of La Rochelle and whose whites are kept beautifully fresh thanks to the nearby Atlantic. And our buying team are raving about the 2006 Chardonnay - an impressive follow-up to the exceptional 2005. This new release approaches Chablis levels of intensity and purity - very good wine at a modest price. Bright green gold with crisp aromas of freshly-sliced apple and citrus leading to rich fruit flavours with a well-balanced, creamy finish.

Mancini Estate Block 1891 Verdelho Chardonnay 2006
Mancini Estate Block 1891 Verdelho Chardonnay 2006 - £6.15
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
The wine in the bottle is every bit as original and refreshing as the label. Mancini Estate seamlessly combines mouthwatering Verdelho with creamy ripe Chardonnay. So good you won't be able to resist that second glass. ''Mango'' Mancini is your real 'salt of the earth' Aussie grape grower with Italian heritage. He's built himself an impressive vineyard holding in Griffith over the years through sheer hard work and focus on quality. That's why 'Mr Medals' - winemaker Sam Trimboli - approached him for his grapes during the 2006 harvest. He told us ''They were perfect, spotless and beautifully ripe. I knew I could make something really special with them''. And he certainly has. Sun-ripened tropical fruit flavours - guava, pineapple and so on - mingle with peach-fresh Chardonnay. Crisp, refreshing and well balanced. Serve chilled with barbecued prawn kebabs, sauteed scallops, chicken and mango salad or poached salmon.

Tallowwood Creek Colombard 2006
Tallowwood Creek Colombard 2006 - £6.15
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
If you want something crisp, fruity and refreshing - and a change from Sauvignon, Pinot Grigio and Cardonnay - then Tallowwood Creek Colombard is well worth getting to know. Tallowwood is part of the Beelgara Estate in the centre of New South Wales's Riverina wine region. Founded over 60 years ago it was transformed into a state of the art operationa few years ago by dynamic winemaker Bob Berton. As for the Colombard grape, well it was originally from France's rural Gascony where it was used to make Armagnac. Now, more often than not, it produces mouthwatering, citrussy table whites like this. Under the Aussie sun it really performs well. Tallowwod boasts a light straw colour and juicy tropical fruit aromas with hints of freshly sliced green pepper. Perfect wine for Thai chicken curry.

Arriero Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 2006
Arriero Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 - £6.15
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
The Mendoza province is the grape-growing area in Argentina, and Arriero is the area's second largest winery. It has invested heavily to produce good value, high quality New World wines - like this deliciously smooth Shiraz Cabernet. The vineyards are about 60km north of Mendoza itself, which is an area of cold winters and hot summers. Rainfall is low but abundant snowmelt from the mountains allows irrigation when required. At 800 metres above sea level, the variation between day and night temperatures accentuates the aromatic intensity of the grapes. And 2006 was a dry vintage giving wines of impressive concentration. You'll love the spicy, brambly, cassis character of this wine. It's smooth and instantly appealing. Serve with roast lamb or beef casserole.
