Laborie Chamont Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2003
Laborie Chamont Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2003 - £6.55
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Each year at the cellar in Valvigneres (valley of the vines) we install our very own team of winemakers. This year John Adams - Joe Cockers taller brother - no kidding! Soon after John's arrival on site the best parcels of lavishly ripe Merlot and Cabernet had been earmarked. The grapes, grown by Laborie and Chamont from mature (25 year old) vines are handpicked from these top-notch sites. Made in a classic style the wine underwent a slow, cool fermentation to extract the maximum in deep, rich fruit flavours. Fantastic to drink in its youth, leave it a little while longer and you'll experience a claret-like refinement without the price-tag.

Legenda Pinot Noir 2005
Legenda Pinot Noir 2005 - £6.55
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Legenda Pinot Noir comes from the remote vineyards of the Tvarditsa Estate in distant Moldova - way off the well-trodden wine map, but oozing winemaking history that goes back over 2000 years. In more recent times these ancient vineyards supplied the tsars of imperial Russia and the Kremlin elite. The hand-picked grapes, excellent growing conditions (the estate lies on the same latitude as Burgundy) and ageing in small oak barrels give Legenda real class - all the finesse of red Burgundy at an extraordinary low price. We think you'll find Legenda Pinot Noir a revelation! Dark ruby colour (much deeper than Burgundy!) with ripe red fruit and 'forest floor' aromas. Luxurious flavours of damson, tobacco leaf and spice, thanks to patient ageing in French oak barrels. Great Pinot Noir to be enjoyed with your finest dishes!

Champaron 2003
Champaron 2003 - £6.55
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Boasting a mention by Robert Louis Stevenson in his ''Travels With A Donkey...'', the tiny Rhone village of Valvigneres (population 89) has a developed a strong reputation for its charming wines - taking on the big guns of Chateauneuf-du-Pape and winning! The strong, dynamic character of the Cave de Valvigneres' President, Jean-Luc Faugere, has been pivotal in this success, building on the winemaking heritage of the area (wine has been made here since Roman times.) His efforts are reflected in the array of medals for the Cave's superlative, warming reds. ''Dark ruby red. Ripe black cherry and plum flavours, with a touch of sweet tobacco. Medium bodied with medium tannins. A true Rhone cocktail.''

Domaine du Bousquillon 2005
Domaine du Bousquillon 2005 - £6.55

Colina de Piatra Alba Pinot Noir 2006
Colina de Piatra Alba Pinot Noir 2006 - £6.55
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Haunting, elegant, silky, seductive, 'sexy' even ... just a few of the evocative words used to describe great Pinot Noir. We say the best way to understand Pinot is to get it in your biggest glass and savour every soft, succulent mouthful. Why not start with this elegant beauty from Romania. You may be surprised to learn that this far-flung European country has ''what could be some of Europe's greatest cool-climate vineyards.'' (Hugh Johnson's Wine Companion). Pale brick red with pronounced aromas of strawberries and sweet spice. Gently mouthfilling flavours and supple tannins with a long, pure red berry fruit finish.

One of the 'new generation' of Southern French wines, this is ripe, full-bodied Cabernet direct from a region offering ''hand-crafted French wines with real individuality'' (Jancis Robinson) ''The South of France has become a haven for good value Reds'' (Joanna Simon). Winemakers here are enjoying the freedom to experiment with grape varieties previously never seen in the region. And with a harvest nearly a month later than the previous year, there's plenty of concentrated flavour to show for it. Deep garnet colour with powerfully concentrated aromas of blackcurrant, liqourice and nutmeg aromas. Quaffable cassis flavours with elegant tannins and a long, fruity finish. Ideal served with roast beef, stews and fine cheeses.

Guaranteed to delight anyone who has ever spent a memorable Summer holiday in France in the company of great friends sampling magical local food and wine.

Domaine Lalande Petit Verdot 2005
Domaine Lalande Petit Verdot 2005 - £6.55
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
This delectable Petit Verdot - Bordeaux's potent secret weapon - is rarely seen anywhere else in the world in its purest form! The grape, named for its small berries, is used by top Bordeaux chateaux to add complexity to their Grand Vins. The berries have thick skins too - it's the skins that give colour, body and flavour ... and this wine has all three by the shed load! Owner Pierre Degroote was the first ever to plant Petit Verdot wines in the region, and the cool climate of Domaine Lalande has perfect conditions for concentrating fruit - notoriously difficult to ripen elsewhere, hence the rarity. Almost opaque, with mouthfilling richness of spicy black fruits and soft vanilla oak. Perfect with strong cheeses.

Aresti Estate Merlot 2006
Aresti Estate Merlot 2006 - £6.55
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
''Chile ... no other country in the world delivers so much red wine flavour for the price'' Oz Clarke's Wine Buying Guide. And with quality vineyards, low yields and expert winemaking, Chile is a natural for this classic Old World grape from noble Bordeaux. The 2006 release from Aresti is Merlot at its succulent, mouth-caressing best. So much red fruit flavour ... this is an enormously expressive wine. Horseback is the transport of choice at Aresti and the beautiful estate makes its wines along very organic lines. Succulent, plummy with velvety blackberry and loganberry flavours and a fresh, herby finish.

Pere la Force Merlot 2006
Pere la Force Merlot 2006 - £6.55
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
From the heart of southern France's Roussillon comes this rich, ripe Merlot named afer a powerful, 11th century abbot who once presided over the nearby abbey. Similar to Bordeaux, the area has two rivers that gently cool the area help the vines produce great, concentrated flavours. Pere La Force bursts with ripe plum aromas and plenty of juicy red berry fruit flavours. This velvety southern French Merlot is soft enough to please on its own, yet a great partner to roast lamb, pasta with pesto and herby roasted vegetables.

Conde Galiana Gran Reserva 2000

Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Rare-to-find sumptuous Gran Reserva from Spain's spectacular 2000 vintage ... even rarer to find one at this fantastic price! Three years in fine oak casks has imbued a sweet vanilla character to the ripe bramble fruit of 50-year-old vines and rounded the tannins to perfection. Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo and Garnacha come together in perfect harmony - with a helping hand from the consummate professionals at the Elias Gil family winery. Burgundy coloured with complex aromas of jam and fruits of the forest against a subtle spicy backdrop of vanilla, bay leaf and black pepper. Conde Galiana Syrah 2005
Conde Galiana Syrah 2005 - £6.55
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Conde Galiana is the lastest sensation from Don Elias Gil. It's a bold, juicy red made with ultra-ripe, high-grown Syrah from vineyards in Catalunya's exclusive Terra Alta region (tipped by the Independent as the place to go for ''really concentrated reds'' ). It's even more concentrated in 2005, thanks to the best vintage in years ... high temperatures and low rainfall giving dense, flavour-packed wines. Terra Alta gets even more sunshine than South Australia ... no wonder Conde Galiana is so delicious! Deep ruby with the enticingly spicy bramble and blackcurrant aromas of classic Syrah. Mouthfuls of juicy black fruit make this absolutely mouthwatering with grilled lamb cutlets.

Heredad del Baron 2005
Heredad del Baron 2005 - £6.55
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
''Arguably the best wines of Yecla'' is how John Radford describes the produce from Bodegas Casta?o, while Robert Parker regularly awards its wines 90 points or above and described one as ''a cutting edge effort from one of Spain's backwaters, but soon to be famous appellations''. This is a delightfully silky, smooth Spanish red, with all the warmth, tang and spice you'd expect from this part of the world. Full of dense, jammy fruit, it's soft enough to enjoy on its own, but also goes exceptionally well with food.

Rusty Goat Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon 2007
Rusty Goat Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 - £6.55
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
If you've ever been to the Australian outback, you'll know about that famous red soil (if not, think Ayers Rock and you'll be on the right track). And if you've driven around the tiny county of Warburn you may have seen the odd sight of hundreds of rusty-looking goats - their coats tinted by the red dust. Antonio Sergi, Warburn Estate's lead man, is also owner of the goats ... hence his affection for the name! The rich, red soil does have more important uses too - helping deliver outstanding Merlot and Cabernet grapes. Wine lovers the world over know of South Australia's legendary 'terra rosa' soil that produces such superb wines in the Coonawarra. In New South Wales, near Warburn Estate, the soil is very similar giving the vines the great drainage they need. Left on the vine longer to achieve maximum ripeness, this soft, silky wine is filled with aromas of red fruits, plums with a hint of oak. Lovely fruity flavours of redcurrant and plum with a touch of spice. Perfect for barbeque or Italian food.

Le Batteleur
Le Batteleur - £6.55
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Bordeaux reds were once called 'clairet', meaning light-coloured. So merchants of old found ways of beefing it up - wine books even give you the 'Bordeaux Recipe' of times gone by, using dark black Spanish wine Tarragona - illegal but tasty! Le Batteleur shows you that beefy black Tarragona and fruit-fragrant Bordeaux marry together perfectly when done by a master winemaker, like out Jean-Marc Sauboua. It's named after the battle fought where our Chai now stands, where loyal Bordeaux was lost by the English king. It's a great house red - dark ruby in colour, ripe berry/bramble fruit. Full, warm and rich - like claret with a touch of smooth, sunny Spain. A real pleasure to drink.

Castillo de Jumilla Monastrell Oak Aged 2005
Castillo de Jumilla Monastrell Oak Aged 2005 - £6.55

This blackberry and red fruit beauty boasts a cabinet full of awards, 87 points from super-critic Robert Parker and was described by Wine Spectator as ''a nice mix of fresh fruit and local character'' when they named it Wine of the Week! Made from 100% Monastrell (Spain's darkest, richest grape) this terrific red comes from a multi-award winning, family owned, single estate in Jumilla, an area of Spain that is exciting the critics with its flavour-packed, fruit-driven stars like this! Indulgently deep in colour, with a full, ripe nose lip-smacking black fruit plus a hint of rich, spicy oak. Oodles of sweet black cherry flavour. And this lovely juiciness is nicely framed by smooth oak.

Yet again Oz wine-wizard Bob Berton prevails, with this tasty NEW red from the little known Ral Ral Creek winery in Renmark. Silky-smooth mouthfuls of blackberry, bramble and raspberry with hints of toasty vanilla-spice. Perfect with pork and leek sausages, lasagne and beef stews.

smooth Cabernet sauvignon full of cassis and black cherries, complemented by hints of mocha and dark chocolate. A great choice to match with red meats, herby dishes or mature cheeses.
The legend of Casillero del Diablo began more than 100 years ago, when Don Melchor de Concha y Toro, founder of the winery, reserved for himself an exclusive batch of the best wines produced. To keep strangers and light fingered workers away from this sp
