Vi?a Tarapaca Chardonnay 2006 - £6.49
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
It was the exceptional fruit purity that brought this white to our buyer's attention over ten years ago, and it's been top of everyone's wish lists since! Chile's reputation for wines has been rapidly growing - according to Wine Magazine they are 'the definition of drinkability' and that's certainly true here. Situated in the Maipo Valley, just below the Andes, the historic Tarapaca estate (founded in 1874) is not only breathtakingly beautiful but benefits from ideal conditions. Cool breezes and abundant sunshine infuses the grapes with aromatic freshness and a full, ripe flavour. Star winemaker Cristian Molina rigorously selects the very best fruit, and bottles it pure and unoaked to let the glorious tropical fruit flavours shine through.

Long Terrace Semillon Chardonnay 2005
Long Terrace Semillon Chardonnay 2005 - £6.55
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Welcome back Long Terrace! It's been four years since we've been wowed by a new vintage of this old favourite ... fitting then that the long-awaited return is crafted by a winemaking genius in a remarkable year for Australian wines. ''2005'' has turned out brilliantly'' wrote fine wine critic Robert parker of this vintage Down Under. A relatively cool Summer yielded superb fruit, especially for Oz star whites, Semillon and Chardonnay. Give a master like Sam Trimboli premium grapes, step back and hold out your glass! He has created a wonderfully aromatic wine, with all the exotic fruit of past vintages but far more elegance. White peach and citrus blossom aromas, a spicy, citrus finish. An extremely refreshing and satisfying mouthful!

Deep in the heart of the Languedoc, thirty miles from the walled city of Carcassonne, lies the award-winning Domaine Lalande. You've been snapping up each successive vintage of this South African gem for years, such is the power of its mouthwatering freshness and the purity of its fruit. Well, the new release is as fresh as ever. It's made by former South African Winemaker of the Year De Wet Lategan (something of a Chenin specialist) at the Bergsig Estate - a regular feature on the wine list in first class on South African Airways. Billowing pineapple, gauva and melon aromas with zippy citrus zing, White River is long and refreshing - full of orchard fruit flavours and zippy citrus notes. The perfect aperitif, or try it with salmon roulades and seafood canapes.

The Amasimi Kelder Byekorf Hoek Semillon 2007
The Amasimi Kelder Byekorf Hoek Semillon 2007 - £6.55
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Along with Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon is one of the noble varieties behind the great whites of Bordeaux - sweet and dry. Rarely is it seen there on its own (you're far more likely to find dry 100% Sauvignons). That said, one or two of the top Sauternes are made almost exclusively from Semillon. No, dry Semillon is very much a New World phenomenon - you may already be familiar with the Aussie versions. We reckon this one from a group of top Cape winemakers is every bit as good - suggesting this is a style we'll be seeing more of in future. What this space ... Freshly grated lemon zest aromas lead to a full, creamy palate of citrus flavours. Lovely balanced acidity and good length. Serve with pan-fried fish, grilled lemon chicken or a Thai-style stir-fry.

Fief du Temple Chardonnay 2006
Fief du Temple Chardonnay 2006 - £6.55
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
With its crisp, citrus minerality and creamy peach flavours you'd expect Fief du Temple to hail from pricey Chablis or an expensive village in Burgundy. Instead it comes from the Loire Valley where Chardonnay is rare but when it's good it's very good ... and offers amazing value. Noel Bourgrier and his famiy have five generations of know-how under their belt - perfect for making the most of this outstanding vintage. ''Pale gold in the glass, with tantalizing aromas of freshly sliced apples, lemons and pears. Concentrated citrus and creamy peach flavours layered with delicious minerality.''

Conde Galiana 2006
Conde Galiana 2006 - £6.55
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
A deliciously creamy, peachy white made using the relatively unknown Garnacha Blanco, (its cousin, Garnacha, is often added Rioja to give a rich fruitiness to the blend.) In the Terra Alta region of Catalunya - where this wine hails from - it's the main white grape, famous for giving intensely fruity, aromatic wines that are enjoyed in chic wine bars in nearby Barcelona's Gothic quarter. It's the gnarled, 35-year-old bush vines, producing only the tiniest of yields, which give such concentrated flavours. Grown up in the hills, the grapes also benefit from slightly cooler temperatures and the drying ''Cierzo'' winds that help keep them disease free. Winemaker Elias Gil ensures that only the best, handpicked fruit Garnacha Blanco (plus, a touch of Chardonnay for extra creaminess) makes it into Conde Galiana. A short rest in French oak barrels gives a deliciously spicy, vanilla finish ... seriously classy! Creamy peach and freshly-sliced apple aromas are joined by hints of grapefruit and almond. Smooth and full in the mouth, with a long, spicy finish. Excellent with crab, smoked salmon or chicken in a white sauce.

Finca La Escondida Sauvignon Blanc 2007
Finca La Escondida Sauvignon Blanc 2007 - £6.55
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Shhh ... high in the Andes near Mendoza, there's a closely kept secret - a tiny hidden vineyard growing world-class Sauvignon! Those in the know, like star winemaker Opi Sadler, harvest precious bunches by hand to ensure only the finest are used for this dazzling, gooseberry-fresh white. Thrillingly fresh, combining ripe fruit, hints of grass and a vibrant, lemony zing. Thirst-quenching refreshment on its own or crack open a bottle to liven up prawn stir-fry or light hors d'oeuvres

Marquis de Goulaine Chardonnay 2006
Marquis de Goulaine Chardonnay 2006 - £6.55
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Introducing an exhilarating NEW Chardonnay that wowed a panel of the UK's top wine tasters (including Oz Clarke, Tim Atkin and seven Masters of Wine!) and outscored Grand Cru Chablis, Premier Cru Meursault and Chassagne-Montrachet at the prestigious Chardonnay du Monde Competition. With its crisp, citrus minerality and subtle creamy-oak flavours you'd be forgiven for thinking this delicious white hails from pricey Chablis or an expensive Burgundy cellar. It's actually from the Loire Valley, where Chardonnay is pretty rare ... but when it's good, it's very good indeed. Incredibly beautiful, Chateau de Goulaine is one of those fairytale castles the Loire is famous for - and one of the last to still have its own vineyards. Today it's occupied by the 11th Marquis de Goulaine, Robert, and his son Matthieu who tend the estate's historic Chardonnay vines (Robert believes the Goulaines are the oldest winemaking family in the world!) In 2006 - a vintage Loire experts have been raving about - they enjoyed a particularly warm, early Atlantic Spring and a long, hot Summer which produced a bumper crop of perfectly sun-ripened grapes. Deliciously fresh and bursting with abundant stone-fruit flavours - we guarantee that you'll love this great-value discovery!
