Pagos de Tahola Crianza 2004
Pagos de Tahola Crianza 2004 - £8.99
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Two generations of the Chavarri family, father Francisco and daughter Ruth run the estate along with winemaker Miguel Lopez Nunez. The house style is based on exuberant fruit from vines grown in some of Rioja's highest vineyards, framed by careful maturation in high-quality French and American oak barrels. Painstaking care is lavished on this superb Crianza. Sourced from the family's own old vineyards, the grapes are hand-harvested to allow the intense fruit flavours to shine through. 12 months' ageing in a judicious blend of new and old French and American oak barrels has given a deliciously soft wine, overflowing with vibrant, succulent bramble and damson fruit. Superb value.

Once again, this incredible deal necessitated a vow of silence on our part as to the true identity of the estate - they couldn't risk such a low price undermining their upmarket status. The rare combination of three intensely flavoured varieties makes for such a delightfully refreshing, very moreish aperitif you'll want to it enjoy time and time again. Take all you can! Veterans of the Australian wine industry - Stephen Obst and Ivan Limb - have over the years worked for some of the biggest names in Oz, but have now decided to go solo. Andrew Garrett Sauvignon is made purely from grapes grown at their own vineyard on the tough, rocky soil of Waikeri. This crisp, succulent gem is a match for pricier New Zealand rivals, tangy and rich with a lovely balance of fresh lime, peach notes and a slightly spicy edge.
