Scrimshaw Shiraz 2006
Scrimshaw Shiraz 2006 - £8.99
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Scrimshaw Shiraz is rich, barrel-aged classic that's deeper and smoother - that's ever thanks to winemaking legend, Philip Shaw. Philip is arguably the world's greatest living winemaker. With THREE Winemaker of the Year awards under his belt, he's renowned for pushing quality boundaries with his modern, vibrant, expressive wines. He began his winemaking at 15, and since graduating, has worked with practically all of Australia's biggest players, winning countless awards for his wines. For Scrimshaw 2006, Philip sought out the very best fruit from Australia's top cool-climate regions. McLaren Vale, renowned as ''Australia's Chateauneuf'' The Independent, and ''the best South Australian spot for Shiraz.'' The Times. PLUS, this year Scrimshaw boasts fruit from NEW fine wine hot-spot Orange, where Philip makes his home, known for its ''graceful wines'' (Canberra Times) Philip's boutique wines are ''epic ...collectors' pieces ... unmissable'' Matthew Jukes, and sell for #20-plus a bottle ... yet with Scrimshaw 2006 you'll enjoy a 'Shaw' masterpiece for much less!

Warburn Estate Oak-aged Durif 2007
Warburn Estate Oak-aged Durif 2007 - £8.99
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Deep, dark Durif ''takes no prisoners'' according to Tim Atkin - and ripens to perfection in the Aussie sun. No wonder it's winemaker Sam Trimboli's favourite grape (his number plate even spells it out!). And 2007 is his best yet! Severe drought affected the size of the Durif grapes, resulting in small berries of intense flavour which pushed concentration to levels we never thought possible. Magnificently rich with oodles of smooth plum, black cherry and tantalising Syrah-like spice. Velvety, voluptuous, and irresistible served in large glasses with char-grilled steak.

Bovlei Centenary 2007
Bovlei Centenary 2007 - £8.99
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
2007 saw Wellington's Bovlei winery reach its centenary year and to celebrate, they crafted just 665 cases of this majestic red ... and thanks to our longstanding friendship, Bovlei set some aside, just for you! Head winemaker Frank Meaker is a luminary figure in South African wine. His grandfather was Paul Sauer, political activist and founder of Kanonkop Estate, South Africa's finest winery. Frank's earliest memories are of walking the vines with his grandfather, dreaming of the day when he could make his own wines. To make this special, one-off blockbuster, Frank selected the finest parcels of fruit. He chose the ripest Petit Verdot for elegant, backboned structure. Then to add super-smooth depth, Frank drew on the Cape's fortified heritage, choosing two delightful old Port varieties - Souzoa and Touriga Nacional. A nine-month rest in fine oak adds a subtle vanilla layer to this delightfully unique wine. Gloriously complex combination of blackberry and mulberry fruit, claret-like structure and subtle oak. The Port grapes add a warm mouthfeel and sweet nuances ... great with roasts and chargrilled steaks.

Alain describes conditions as ''perfect'' in 2005 ... Pinot Noir grapes, hand-picked from the steep slopes of Chateau de Montpatey's tiny vineyard, came in bursting with health ... and incredibly deep flavours. ''One great advantage of 2005 is the quality and value of Bourgogne Rouge - gorgeous, with intense, silky palates'' (The Times) As Alain says, you do very little with fruit this good - just let the Pinot Noir flavours sing ... amplified in such a top year and rounded out by fine oak ageing. La Chapelle de Calamiac Syrah 2006
La Chapelle de Calamiac Syrah 2006 - £8.99
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Blind tastings are a level playing field, where judges can't be influenced by fancy reputations. Many top chateaux shy away from such competitions, but when we tasted La Chapelle de Calamiac from Benoit Blancheton (whose Chateauneuf won 92 Parker points!) we insisted he enter French Magazine's South of France blind tasting. Here's what the judges had to say: ''without a doubt the winner of this tasting. More complex than all the other wines''. Benoit had access to fruit from exclusive cru La Liviniere. There's a hefty premium to pay to give his wine the cru classification, so this year, he chose not to classify - passing the savings onto you! The tasting team said ''the flavours of mature red fruits such as blackcurrant and strawberries are perfectly balanced with some gentle notes of wood and vanilla''. Best with cassoulet, game pie or hard cheeses. Order now to be sure of yours!

Dezzani I Morelli 2006
Dezzani I Morelli 2006 - £9.19

Innocently light ... this glorious discovery comes from the hills of Piedmont. It has oceans of fruit flavour and a little bit of everything else that's delicious - sparkle, sweetness, crispness ... and the featherlight touch of just 5% alcohol. Moscato d'Asti is not to be confused with simple Asti - this has much greater depth of flavour and finesse. And family-made, authentic gems like Dezzani Morelli seldom leave Italy - but look what happens when it does! Gold at the International Wine Challenge ... PLUS a successful showing at the Vintage Festival and glowing recommendations in The Guardian and The Telegraph. This is a pride and joy speciality of the Dezzani family. And, as one leading writer puts it: ''The amount of work going into producing Moscato d'Asti makes a mockery of the price.'' This is a genuine bargain ... you simply must try it! ''Straw yellow colour with emerald glints. Very aromatic - apples, pears and floral notes - gently honeyed white fruit fl avours and a crisp, subtle sparkle. Perfect on its own or with fruit tarts.''

Hommage a Pierre Alexandre Jean-Marie Raimbault 2007
Hommage a Pierre Alexandre Jean-Marie Raimbault 2007 - £9.19
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
With centuries of Sancerre know-how, it's little wonder this is Sauvignon at its racy, medal-winning best! Using fruit sourced from a premium single vineyard, winemaker Jean-Marie Raimbault has produced one of the most intense, mineral-rich whites you're likely to taste at this low price! You'd be forgiven for not knowing of Coteaux du Giennois. The Sancerre lookalikes made here are very rare indeed. The region is a stone's throw from Sancerre itself, and the outstanding quality here has seen it awarded Appellation Controlee status, but prices remain in your favour. Why? Winemakers are unable to rely on the name (as yet) to sell their wines, so the quality has to speak for itself - and it really does! Especially when the Raimbault team are in charge, lavishing Hommage a Pierre Alexandre with all the care of their top releases. Exceptionally fresh and packed with vibrant cut-grass, gooseberry and green-apple flavours, Hommage a Pierre Alexandre Jean-Marie Raimbault has a mouth-biting crispness that Sauvignon fans will adore!

Cuvee du Vatican 2006
Cuvee du Vatican 2006 - £9.29
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Cuvee du Vatican is a legendary name in the Rhone, famous for its Chateauneuf-du-Pape, which has in recent years notched up a series of 90-plus scores from fine wine critic Robert Parker. Worldwide demand is huge. Fortunately the winemaking genius behind the cellar's rise to fame, Jean-Marc Diffonty, holds us in very high regard. That's why he's made this special Cotes-du-Rhone-Villages exclusively for you - although a few bottles could be heading for Rome given the Vatican's fondness for this cellar! They call this 'Le Petit Frere' in the cellar because it has the spicy red fruit and depth of their Chateauneuf - but it's supple, gentler and perfect to drink right now. So, echoes of a world icon but at a fraction of the price! Ruby colour and seductive blackberry, dark cherry and wild herb aromas. Plenty of peppery black fruit, earthy, savoury notes and supple tannins. Lovely with roast red meats.

Reserve de Gassac Grande Cuvee 2004
Reserve de Gassac Grande Cuvee 2004 - £9.29
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Aime Guibert's Mas de Daumas Gassac shot from obscurity 25 years ago to lead a thrilling quality revolution in southern France. His wines were hailed as 'a miracle'... experts debated whether it was more like Lafite or Latour...revered wine writer and Sotheby's expert Michael Broadbent described Aime's white as ''One of the top ten whites in the world.'' The Grande Cuvee is made from small patches of vines (mainly ripe, aromatic Sauvignon) growing amid the sparse southern stone and scrub. The wine's 'secret' is the careful use of intense but little-known local varieties and light barrel-ageing, lending exotic complexity and uniquely delicious flavours. Bright and herby. A fresher style of Gassac on the nose but the palate is familiar; exotic juicy southern weight and a strong finish. Terrific!
