Familia Martinez Bujanda Reserva 2000
Familia Martinez Bujanda Reserva 2000 - £11.39
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
The Martinez Bujanda family are one of a handful of Rioja bodegas to own all their own vineyards - giving them total control over ripeness, yield, harvesting ... and 'you can taste it in the glass' quality. Voted in the World's top 50 wineries by Wine Spectator nine years running, brothers Carlos and Jesus refuse to rest on their laurels, saying ''We treat each vintage as our first and make it the best we can'' ... and each year they continue to amaze us with their superb Reserva Rioja. Stunningly elegant, the juciy, smooth Tempranillo is 'beefed up' by the ripest Mazuelo (a traditional Rioja grape which adds colour and depth) from ancient, low-yielding vines. Patient ageing in new French and American oak barrels has given a wine of thrilling depth and purity. Simply outstanding.

Wrangle Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2004
Wrangle Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2004 - £11.39
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot, skilfully crafted in a charming and food-friendly style. For Aussie lovers, this wine makes a great change from Shiraz! After years of working the famous Rosemount Winery, becoming in the process, one of the Australia's best-known winemakers, Philip Shaw set up on his own with a vineyard he had bought way back in the 1980s. Orange is a beautiful place with very distinct seasons - not something that other Australian wine regions can generally lay claim to. Its cool climate status means the wines are elegant and fragrant - yet still with that benchmark Australian ripeness. Lovely minty Cabernet with ripe blackcurrant fruit and firm yet smooth tannins. Serve with hearty stews, roast leg of lamb or tender steaks.

Bois de la Salle 2005
Bois de la Salle 2005 - £11.39
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
St Amour is perhaps the best-loved of all the Beaujolais Crus and as Richard Ehrlich, noted in The Independent on Sunday, ''these wines can achieve extraordinary heights''. That they most certainly did in 2005 a ''textbook perfect'' vintage according to Beaujolais legend George Duboeuf. Never has Beaujolais tasted so incredibly rich and beautifully balanced but stocks of this hugely acclaimed vintage are running dangerously low. If you're a fan you may have already got your finger poised on the order button. Press it! If you're unfamiliar with St Amour at its gorgeous best, we cannot urge you strongly enough to try it now. Draw the cork and brace yourself for a rush of crushed cherry and strawberry aromas. Take a sip and enjoy the mouth-caressing silkiness, vibrant red fruit flavours and lovely lingering intensity. Serve with chacouterie, roasted poultry and cheese platters.

Pagos de Tahola Reserva 1999
Pagos de Tahola Reserva 1999 - £11.39
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
The delicious Pagos de Tahola, made from 100% Tempranillo from a vineyard first planted by the Chavarri family in 1882, was lovingly crafted Don Francisco Chavarri and his daughter Ruth, and given an extra long period of ageing to qualify for Reserva status. Rioja Reserva of this quality and age is now rare indeed - it's an expensive style to make (and cellar). Perfectly mature at eight years, with blackberry and herb aromas, rich, brambly fruit and a smooth, sweet vanilla oak finish. Wonderful!

The Moonlighters Shiraz 2006
The Moonlighters Shiraz 2006 - £11.39
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
At the back of the Redheads Studio, guiding force Justin Lane's treating a few barrels of very special McLaren Vale Shiraz with the same lavish care as his 95-Parker-point reds. When he siphoned a few glasses from barrel to see what the assembled crew - us along with a many more hard-bitten wine people - thought, there were no polite words for the sake of it ... ''It's a beaut, son'' ... ''I'd rather drink tht than Grange'' ... ''Your Pom mates are a lucky bunch'' ... Justin's christened this 'The Moonlighters', for that's just what Redheads is all about - giving local winemakers the chance to make the wines they (rather than their big bosses) want to make. ''Its deep, velvety core of blackberry and raspberry lasts forever, set off by toasty spice. Deserves a juicy steak, or sit back with a glass solo.''

Chateau Macquin 2005
Chateau Macquin 2005 - £11.39
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Saint-Georges Saint-Emilion, now part of Montagne Saint-Emilion, is one of this most esteemed wine region's satellite villages and a terrific source of excellent value, top quality wines. In a great year such as 2005 there is little to distinguish a great wine such Chateau macquin from many a Grand Cru Saint-Emilion, thanks in no small part to the similarity of the terroir. The vines are on average 55 years' old ensuring lovely concentration and the consultant winemaker is the renowned Jean-Claude Berrouet. This is a delicious, oak-aged Merlot-rich wine with bags of plumy fruit and soft, supple tannins.

Bodegas Primicia Reserva 2003
Bodegas Primicia Reserva 2003 - £11.39
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Double medal, barrel-aged Reserva courtesy of highly acclaimed Bodega Primicia. 100% Tempranillo delivers mouthfilling strawberry fruit - framed with creamy oak. The Bodega is named after the first taxes paid to the church at each harvest. It was always paid in fruit - and berry fruit flavours is something this wine has by the bucketful. Hand harvested from high altitude vineyards, the grapes then spend three months in cask. So - unique, bemedalled and from the heart of Rioja. Definitely one for the dining table. The supple, oaky tannins make this a fine partner for rare roast beef or ripe cheeses but it is also soft enough to enjoy on its own.

Chateau La Gorce 2003
Chateau La Gorce 2003 - £11.39
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Chateau La Gorce comes from a grand 19th century estate in Blaignan in the Medoc, just north of Saint-Estephe and next door to the famous properties of Chateaux Loudenne and Cardorne. Founded in 1821 by Madame La Gorce - who gives the estate its name - it came into the hands of the Fabre family only in the 1980s. The new owners set about restoring the vineyards and workign hard to improve quality. Their efforts have paid off - the last four vintages have won them a total of eight medals, including four Golds. Made with a mix of traditional red Bordeaux varieties, Cabernet Sauvginon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a touch of Petit Verdot, the wine shows plenty of ripe, red and black berry flavours, with warming spice on the finish. Delicious with roasted red meats.

100% Tempranillo, hand-harvested from 35-year-old vines in Rioja's premium Alavesa area... Reserva of this quality and age is now rare indeed - largely because it's an expensive style to make and cellar. However this doesn't deter father and son team, Javier and Julian Muriel, from bringing you the very best from the region... at a very appealing price! With such care and attention, its no wonder Baron de Barbon is so popular. ''Dark cherry colour, rich red fruit aromas and an elegantly smooth mouthful of ripe cherries, caramel, leather and spice. Duca di Saragnano, Vecciano 2004
Duca di Saragnano, Vecciano 2004 - £11.39
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
If you haven't tried a ''Super-Tuscan'' before - here's your great-value opportunity! These high-quality, 'rule-breaking' reds are hugely popular (especially in the US) and command big bucks! This superb example is made from a perfect harmony of Chianti's Sangiovese grape, super-charged with a little Cabernet Sauvignon - for a magnificent, hearty red that fans of power-packed wines will adore! Founded in 1938 by the Barbanera family, this stunning winery spares no expense on their wines. Current winemaker Simona Barbanera insists on using premium hand-harvested fruit from the winery's best vineyard sites. The wine then undergoes a lengthy slumber (over eighteen months!) in fine oak barrels before it's ready for release. The result is amazing! Ripe and concentrated (thanks to its five-star vintage) with abundant brambly-fruit and vanilla flavours. A perfect partner to hearty Italian cuisine.

Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
We're delighted to have secured the last bottles of this ''big, smooth, warm'' (Italian expert Nick Belfrage) Riserva from Sardinia's premier winery that won an 'Oscar' in the 2005 edition of Italy's leading wine guide, Almanacco del Berebene. Key to the intensity of flavour is the richly concentrated Carignan fruit, hand harvested from low yielding, old bush vines ... and then carefully aged in oak barrels. Beautifully structured too, thanks to the excellent (and now rare) 2000 vintage. Hurry - final bottles left!

Back Shed Shiraz Grenache 2005
Back Shed Shiraz Grenache 2005 - £11.49
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Hugh Johnson's wasn't the only one to be impressed by the sheer scale of this colossal Shiraz (that's part of his tasting note above). The judges at the International Wine Challenge awarded it a Silver medal. So it's clearly not just big, it's beautiful too. It comes from the Redheads wine studio - an establishment that is every bit as extraordinary as the wines it produces. A former wine bar, this cosy boutique winery retains some of the creature comforts of its previous incarnation. Where you might expect an impromptu seat fashioned from a wine barrel, you find instead a red leather sofa where maverick winemakers sit and hatch their next innovative project. It's a place that flies in the face of convention and amidst the jovial buzz of activity, you might also think, by the seat of its pants. But fly it does ... and the results are spectacular. Best with either spicy foods - chorizo-laced pizza, chilli con carne, or a mild vindaloo ... or char-grilled sausages or peppered steaks.
