Geminus Par Ginestet
Geminus Par Ginestet - £6.29
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Geminus is a bold, pioneering red with impeccable credentials - and simply exquisite quality. It has the weight and structure of seriously good claret, with an extra, up-front, fruit-rich intensity. It's made by Ginestet, owners of a long list of revered Bordeaux cru classe chateaux, such as Gruaud-Larose and Haut-Bages Liberal. Since 1897, the Ginestet family name has stood for supreme quality claret. It has also come to represent a forward-looking, dynamic winemaking approach as well. Here they unite top-drawer Merlot from the premium Fronsac region of Bordeaux, with rich, ripe Cabernet Sauvignon from prime sites in southern Languedoc (where more sun equals more ripeness!). Apply a little oak, the experience of winemaker Philippe Hebrard, and you've a ground breaking, impressive wine. Deep ruby colour with intense fresh black and red fruit aromas. Very juicy - plum and blackcurrant - starting softly and smoothly but becoming rounder and more expansive on the palate. Its excellent fruit structure, attractive edge of oak and very satisfying length makes it a perfect dinner party red.

Classically warming, full, spicy red from Down Under - this is Aussie Shiraz at its distinctive best. Made at the awesome Buronga Hill winery near Mildura on the River Murray, it's a perfect example of why Aussie Shiraz is such a popular style. Deep red crimson in colour, spicy, jammy fruit aromas. Smooth and juicy ripe plum flavour and a fresh, brambly finish. In a blind tasting the 2002 vintage of this wine beat a host of famous, illustrious names including Masi Amarone (#18), Cote-Rotie (#20), Chateauneuf-du-Pape (#13)!
