Estampilla Torrontes Sauvignon 2006
Estampilla Torrontes Sauvignon 2006 - £5.89
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
''Argentina is arguably blessed with the New World's most diverse line-up of grapes'' (Tim Atkin, The Observer). Made along very organic lines, this mouthwateringly crisp white marries gently spicy Torrontes (Argentina's speciality white) with racy Sauvignon. The area is doubly blessed thanks to a climate ideal for vines. Warm days and cool, dry nights in the high-altitude vineyards ensure a tremendously long ripening period. Snowmelt from the hills provides the purest irrigation in near desert-like conditions. Leap-from-the-glass aromas of wild flowers and orchard fruits leading to lingering grapefruit, pineapple and citrus flavours. A lively aperitif that also goes very well with green salads and light fish dishes.

Pavillon de Lobre 2007 - £5.89

Now it's time for your tastebuds to be invigorated by this dazzling NEW Sauvignon-like white. It's bursting with apricot and gooseberry flavours - just the ticket for al fresco drinking. Winemaker Claude Houbart, a local hero whose stunning wines have won 30 medals in the last year alone, uses local speciality Loin de L'Oeil to add roundness and elegance to his mouthwatering Sauvignon Blanc. The results are thoroughly satisfying and memorable! Enticing aromas of lime and gooseberry lead into tongue-tingling, zippy flavours of melon, peach and apricot. Crisp, pristine and a great glassful for outdoor sipping.

Its grapes are hand-picked from premium high-altitude vines, in the top-quality 2006 vintage. And colourfully it's from Romanian vineyards - in Transylvania! Here, winemaking heritage spans centuries. In fact, ancient philosopher Plato famously declared the vineyards to be the world's finest! Elegant blossom aromas with crisp citrus flavours and the irresistibly moreish intensity of top Pinot Grigio. Lovely on its own or with seafood and white meats.

Pontilles Sauvignon Blanc 2004
Pontilles Sauvignon Blanc 2004 - £5.99
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
The writer, broadcaster and Master of Wine Jancis Robinson (among many others) reckons parts of France's sunny south are now producing some of the most interesting, best value and hand crafted wines to be found in the country. And certainly this richly concentrated Sauvignon twitched judges noses and tantalised their well-worn tastebuds at London's International Wine Challenge. Its 100% pure Sauvignon grapes - grown on higher and therefore slightly cooler slopes - has delivered a rich wine with gooseberry aromas and a nicely rounded ripe melon flavour. For those of you who like their whites a littles less tangy and grassy than Loire or Kiwi Sauvignons.

Mitchell's Pass Chenin Blanc 2005
Mitchell's Pass Chenin Blanc 2005 - £5.99
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Even the name of this stunning South African white conjures up freshness. Mitchells Pass is high in the mountains above the Breede River valley and the vineyards where this mouthwatering white originated! Local winemaker Lelanie Germshuy has created a name for himself for wines of finesse, complexity and a taste of terroir ... as fans of his Sauvignon well know. Now he has done the same with crisp, clean Chenin - South Africa's speciality grape. Chenin is a grape that deserves wider recognition. It's capable of making wonderfully dry, refreshing whites ... and as Tim Atkin MW says ''Cape Chenin can be wonderful'', with more punch than their Loire counterparts.

Drakenskloof Colombard 2005
Drakenskloof Colombard 2005 - £5.99
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.

And this top-notch new release comes from the premium Worcester area of sunny South Africa. A terrific alternative to pricey Loire whites, this has all the citrus freshness of good Sauvignon Blanc ... at a very keen price.

Pech de Calade Roussanne 2005
Pech de Calade Roussanne 2005 - £5.99
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Though much used to add spice and vibrancy to white Chateauneuf, the Roussanne grape seldom has the chance to shine on its own. Now those in the know are discovering just how good it can be! Pech (meaning little hill) de Calade is made from various domaines near Beziers in France's Midi by Australian supremo Richard Osborne. Selecting only the best parcels when they have reached optimum ripeness, he has created a well-balanced, complex style of wine. A wonderfully rounded mouthful of intense mineral and citrus, this is a weighty, lush style that provides a satisfying glass on its own yet has tons of character to partner food. Chill gently and crack open the bottle with sauced white meats, salmon with a lemon sauce, fish pie or a simple risotto. The cellar recommends Cantal cheese and quiche too!

Casa del Rio Verde Sauvignon Blanc 2006
Casa del Rio Verde Sauvignon Blanc 2006 - £5.99
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Zesty, refreshing Chilean Sauvignon - an exclusive find for usa made by supertalented winemaker Adolfo Hurtado at the award-winning Cono Sur winery, known for pushing the boundaries of Chilean winemaking with special projects like this. Young Adolfo has astounded the international wine circuit by scooping more awards than any other winemaker in Chile's history. He identified some special parcels of vineyard in the warm, lush Colchagua valley next to a river called the Rio Verde. The fruit here ripens easily but retains its elegance and balance thanks to the cooling breezes brought by the river. Bright, pale lemon colour. Vibrant aromas of ripe pear and citrus ... following through on the palate with refreshing grapefruit and a delicious crispness. And 2006 is proving a terrific year for aromatic whites of this quality.

The winemaker is the dynamic Giulano d'Ignazzi who has worked in Chile and injects his whites with an almost New World-like freshness whilst still retaining Italian character. Working with both New and Old World flying winemakers Moncaro has become one of the most important cellars in the region - and with two wineries: one exclusively for red wine production, the other specialising in white.

Castell de Veza 2007
Castell de Veza 2007 - £5.99
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Outstanding quality and superb value in whites simply doesn't get any better than this deliciously zesty, fruit-packed Spanish star. It's crafted at the multi medal-winning La Baronia de Turis cellar who are renowned for the quality of their Malvasia and Moscatel grapes - so much so that in 1626 the town was ordered to pay a special tax to King Felipe IV of Spain due to the superior quality of their wines! Now young, up-and-coming winemaker Juan Pico Lozano brings these two classic varieties together beautifully to create a refreshing, zippy white ''Pale golden glassful with lovely fresh rose petal aromas and deliciously crisp flavours of apricot and zesty orange. Perfect with fragrant Thai dishes.''
