Colombella Garganega Pinot Grigio
Colombella Garganega Pinot Grigio - £37.74
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
2007 gave some of the smallest grape harvests Italy has seen in 60 years ... but it's excellent news! The grapes were even more concentrated than usual, allowing winemaker Maurizio Biscardo to craft a truly exceptional wine. Maurizio has over 170 years of winemaking in his family and although virtually retired he says he ''loves making wine for us''. When he and Tony Laithwaite met up last summer they immediately saw eye-to-eye and started discussing ways to make Colombella better than ever before. Together they decided to add a touch of Garganega to the Pinot Grigio. The great grape of wines from Soave, Garganega gives added elegance and finesse. Tony and Maurizio are delighted with the result - and are sure you will be too! ''Delightful aromas of orange blossom, classic tongue-tingling citrus and apple flavours, and remarkable purity. A lovely aperitivo!''

Berton Crook Road Verdelho
Berton Crook Road Verdelho - £37.74
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Sauvignon fans will adore Bob Berton's wine from his brand new Crook Road winery. Verdelho has been grown in Australia for nearly 200 years, but until recently was used almost exclusively for sweet wines, or 'stickies,' as they call them Down Under. However innovative winemakers like Bob have transformed it into a delicious, fresh-tasting dry white ... great for lovers of Sauvignon! Bob's a very old friend of ours - he introduced you to ever-popular Willy Willy Shiraz and we're delighted he chose to give you exclusive access to his supremely refreshing Verdelho ... especially as these grapes were the very first to be crushed in this exciting new winery! Lively, mouthwatering Verdelho bursting with citrus and lemon grass aromas. Hints of tropical passion fruit and zesty lime are joined by a fresh, lemon crispness on the finish.

The new release is as flavour-packed as ever, showing superb levels of intensity and purity ... this is a wonderful, everyday alternative to pricy Chablis! Bright green gold with crisp aromas of freshly-sliced apple and citrus leading to rich fruit flavours with a well-balanced, creamy finish. Delicious with fish.

And here's the 2006 to prove it. One of our original 'sunshine in the glass' wines, it is made by multi award-winning Sam Trimboli. Bright straw colour and refreshing aromas of pineapple, citrus and oaky, vanilla hints. Deliciously versatile. The crisp, long-lasting melony flavours complement soft cheeses, poached salmon, roasted poultry or Asian dishes.

Dassen View Chenin Blanc
Dassen View Chenin Blanc - £37.74
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Loire Valley variety Chenin Blanc has become a true speciality in South Africa, where it gives fantastically refreshing, zingy whites wines with a tropical fruit edge. Dassen View is made by Jacques Erasmus, a winemaker who, even by South African standards, is an expert in the grape - he made his first Chenin Blanc at the tender age of 12 using his parents' fridge! The grapes for his world-class wine come from a coastal vineyard in the Worcester region of the Cape, which benefit from cooling breezes that extend the growing period and help the berries achieve full ripeness, whilst still retaining the crisp, tangy fruit flavours. Seriously refreshing stuff! ''Pale lemon-gold in colour with aromas of lemon and crisp orchard fruit flavours. With its lively, green-apple character, this wine makes a refreshing glass any time. Enjoy as an aperitif or serve with prawn salad, grilled white fish with chilli salsa or a vegetable stir-fry.''

Subtly barrique-aged Catarratto adds a little richness to the Pinot Grigio zing! Enjoy on its own or with freshly grilled fish.

Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Thierry Matrot is ''a top-class Burgundy producer'' says Wine International and the talent behind this elegant, complex Puligny - always one of our most sought-after white Burgundies because his minimal use of oak gives an extraordinarily ripe, fruit-driven white of supreme balance and poise. Minute quantities so please act quickly. Born in 1881 in the Hautes-Cotes de Beaune, Joseph Matrot was always interested in wine and began his career as a negociant, so when his wife inherited a small plot of Meursault vines with a rambling cottage, the pair set up residence and began renovating the estate. Originally it had been more of a farm, with cows, chickens, and horses for the ploughing, but having dealt in bottled wine previously, Joseph already had a network of customers, and committed himself purely to wine production. Today the estate is run by Joseph's son Thierry, who, as well as having learned his trade first hand, has studied for an oenological diploma in Beaune. Pale gold with a complex aroma of butter, nuts, white blossom and stone fruits. Full and steely with broad flavours and piercing freshness in perfect harmony. Will benefit from decant 20 minutes prior to serving.
