White Wine over £12.00 per bottle

Domaine de Targuerie
Domaine de Targuerie - £35.94
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Wine has been produced in Gascony since the fifth century. Even then, viticulturists could recognise the superior terroir of the region - abundant sunshine and cool temperate evenings produce premium ripe and juicy fruit bursting with freshness! This area is world famous for its Armagnac, but Gascony is rapidly developing a reputation for producing exquisite white wines that are comparable in quality to those of the Loire Valley! This elegant white is bursting with fresh-fruit appeal. Packed with juicy melon, apple and citrus-fresh flavours, it's no surprise that it was recently given a top recommendation at London's prestigious International Wine Challenge. Try with grilled fish or as a lively aperitif.

Tor di Monte Grechetto
Tor di Monte Grechetto - £35.94
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
One of Italy's great originals, cultivated since Roman times, Grechetto is a key component of the best known Umbrian white, Orvieto, and displays a wonderfully concentrated, refreshing elegance. Our specialist Italian Buyer was greatly impressed by this particular wine from the 11th century Tordimonte estate because it offers the same full-flavoured, fresh and nutty character of Orvieto minus the hefty price this famous name carries. Light golden colour, with subtle toasted almond, zesty lemon and floral aromas. Fresh, dry and ripe, it's perfectly suited to local specialities such as Prosciutto di Norcia (a quality cured ham) or freshwater fish and garden-fresh salads.

Riverina Estate Verdelho Chardonnay
Riverina Estate Verdelho Chardonnay - £35.94
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
A new release from winemaking legend Sam Trimboli always deserves immediate attention, and this is an absolute cracker! ''Top Verdelho has an amazingly zesty, tropical flavour'' (Matthew Jukes) ... and that's exactly what you'll find here, with added creamy roundness from a dash of fine Chardonnay. Sam Trimboli's name is synonymous with world-class quality. He's won over 1,100 awards in the last 7 years (10 Golds and a Trophy in the last year alone!). Hundreds rate him as their favourite winemaker. Why? Sheer depth of fruit flavour and unbeatable value ... hallmarks of this irresistible white! ''Pale golden. An aromatic blend of zesty tropical fruit. Soft, crisp lime and pear flavours make this a superb aperitif, that's great with food too - try it with chicken Caesar salad''

Marquise
Marquise - £35.94
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Praised by President Hugh Johnson as having ''more dimensions than the usual Sauvignon'', this is an absolute must-have for lovers of crisp whites. With immense enthusiasm, Noel Bougrier searches the Loire - source of some of the world's most refreshing wines - to secure parcels of extremely fresh, premium grapes. The result: ''Fruity, harmonious white with pure aromas of freshly sliced apple, followed by invigorating, juicy pear flavours. Ideal as an aperitif or served with fish pie.''

Rocca Colmontano
Rocca Colmontano - £35.94
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
From the hills in the heart of the Marche Region, famous for its Verdicchio, Rocca Colmontano is made by the multi award-winning Moncaro cellar. Traditional and modern farming techniques coexist, reducing the impact on the land through the use of biological methods. The winemaker is the dynamic Giulano d'Ignazzi who has worked in Chile and injects his whites with an almost New World-like freshness whilst still retaining Italian character. Working with both New and Old World flying winemakers Moncaro has become one of the most important cellars in the region - and with two wineries: one exclusively for red wine production, the other specialising in white.

Laithwaite Semillon
Laithwaite Semillon - £35.94
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
This delicious Semillon was bottled at our beautifully refurbished 19th century cellar and mini-winery Le Chai au Quai on the banks of the Dodogne. The wine's a thoroughbred beauty ... partly because, again, we've thrown the most expensive of everything at it, and partly because Bordeaux 2006 is an even better year for white wines than the much-lauded 2005. Pure Semillon is as classic in Bordeaux as Sauvignon in Sancerre and Chardonnay in Burgundy. When Laithwaites first started hunting for wines here (some 40 years ago!) there was more white wine than red. Hard to imagine now, after growers realised there was a fortune to be made selling reds overseas. The beloved Bordeaux Semillon disappeared from many vineyards ... we've been fighting its corner ever since ... So, our trophy-winning Bordeaux winemaker Jean-Marc Sauboua set out to track down the tastiest Semillon grapes. Following leads and tip-offs, tasting grapes off the vine, he tracked down two precious batches and took them back to the Chai ready to transform them into this sumptuous white. ''Rich, glowing gold with lively aromas of citrus, nectarine, honey and toasty oak. Deliciously rounded, with layers of juicy lemon, pear and apricot giving way to fine, moreish oak on the finish. Perfect lightly chilled and served with grilled salmon.''

Domaine Mercadier Chardonnay
Domaine Mercadier Chardonnay - £35.94
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Master winemaker Philippe Mercadier has a display cabinet full of awards, including a Gold medal from London's biggest wine show. His family own several famous chateaux in Bordeaux and also, for many decades now, Domaine Mercadier, in the northern part of the Corbieres region. Philippe's famously luxurious, buttery Chardonnay puts many #10+ Burgundies in the shade. He's obsessive about quality and this special wine shows what magnificent results he can achieve. Grapes are picked in the cool of the night to retain all the crisp, fresh aromas. Refreshing and full-flavoured with whistle-clean citrus and green apple flavours. Lively and fresh on the finish. Delicious with rich, creamy chicken dishes.

Baron de Turis 1920 Seleccion
Baron de Turis 1920 Seleccion - £35.94
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
We're very excited about Valencia. Known as Madrid on Sea (the port is a popular weekend hotspot), it's also home to one of the best value whites we've tasted. Gold-medal winemaker Juan Pico Lozano picks local Malvasia and Moscatel for his superbly refreshing Baron de Turis. Hugely popular in the seafront bars and bursting with ripe citrus fruit, this is the perfect lunchtime white! Teeming with bright peach and golden mandarin flavours with a minerally fresh edge - try a chilled glass with crayfish pasta or light Caesar salad.

Domaine Long-Depaquit Moutonne 2004
Domaine Long-Depaquit Moutonne 2004 - £36.00
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
The tiny walled vineyard of Moutonne sits on the hallowed Grand Cru slope above the village of Chablis. Unique, white, sun-soaking soils yield grapes of rarest intensity, allowing Grand Cru master Gerard Vuillien to fashion the most concentrated engaging and complex Chablis of all. The vineyard is famously named after medieval monks said to skip like lambs (moutons) after a glass or two! Gerard Vullien also co-founded the Union des Grands Crus - an elite group making wine ''of a quality to set them among the world's greatest whites''. He is a world-renowned Chablis master whose every release offers Chablis at its striking peak - as this Grand Cru gem shows! Exceptionally well balanced, boasting a complex wealth of pear, earth, flint, and ripe citrus flavours. Exquisite with goats cheese!

Palacio de Menade
Palacio de Menade - £36.34
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
Mouthwatering Palacio de Menade is a very special white that even seasoned tasters mistake for the Loire's finest Sauvignon. ''Palacio de Menade has a fine, cool vibrancy that'll appeal to those who relish Sancerre'' (Victoria Moore, The Guardian). The previous vintage scooped a Gold and Best White of Show Trophy in Spain. And the 2006, on the back of a terrific vintage, exudes the same show-stealing quality that will no doubt dazzle judges all over again. A splash of purest Sauvignon Blanc adds a delicious citrus 'zip' and fine gooseberry aromas, while intensely refreshing local speciality Verdejo - ''the wine's secret weapon'' says Hugh Johnson - gives all-important weight and length. A gorgeous aperitif.

Westend Estate Sauvignon Blanc
Westend Estate Sauvignon Blanc - £36.34
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
It's all down to meticulous grapegrowing, picking at just the right time and hurrying the grapes into the winery to keep all that 'zing' 100% intact. Ex-boxer Bill Calabria took over the family's Westend Estate three decades ago and has an awesome track record of producing superb, flavoursome wines - winning hundreds of awards and many friends along the way.

Domaine Liboreau Chardonnay
Domaine Liboreau Chardonnay - £36.90
Price on 16-Jun-08 from Laithwaites.
A quiet tip-off back in 1996 alerted us to this small domaine, inland from the stylish medieval port of La Rochelle and whose whites are kept beautifully fresh thanks to the nearby Atlantic. And our buying team are raving about the 2006 Chardonnay - an impressive follow-up to the exceptional 2005. This new release approaches Chablis levels of intensity and purity - very good wine at a modest price. Bright green gold with crisp aromas of freshly-sliced apple and citrus leading to rich fruit flavours with a well-balanced, creamy finish.

Quinta do Vale Perdido
Quinta do Vale Perdido - £36.90

''A favourite in our tasting room, thanks to its attractive floral character and crisp green apple and citrus flavours, this vibrant, racy white makes a delicious aperitif. Lisbon locals would serve this with grilled sardines, seafood or asparagus.''
