Domaine Roux 2006
Domaine Roux 2006 - £23.49
Price on from Laithwaites.
''Gevrey - full, rich, fleshy and exotic'' (Coates MW) It's the Roux's tiny plot of 40-year-old vines that give this excellent Gevrey its depth of cherry and cassis flavour yet it's still wonderfully fresh and approachable, the characteristic of 2006. An 18- month slumber in finest French oak wraps the cherry-rich core in a lush and supple structure. Will be among the first to go at this price.

Old vine intensity and depth shine through in this beautifully balanced and deliciously approachable Cotes de Nuits Villages. Full of intense ripe cherry fruits on the nose. Dense and rich with a juicy silky texture and fine tannins - exquisite!

Il Casato 2004
Il Casato 2004 - £7.99
Price on from Laithwaites.
Chianti fans and indeed anyone who has holidayed in Tuscany and enjoyed the supple charms of the local reds, will want to indulge in a case of Il Casato. It's a gorgeous, fruit-driven red - and fabulous value - designed to go with home cooked Italian pasta dishes such as spaghetti Bolognese, lasagna and cannelloni. Happily, it's so rounded and smooth, you can start to drink it while your still in the kitchen! Il Casato comes from the Baroncini family who proudly trace their origins in Tuscany back to the 15th century. They first produced wine in 1489 and the founder's daughter Apollonia soon married a member of the Medici family, the ultimate social achievement! The winery is now run by Stefano Baroncini and his sister Bruna. They are based in the beautiful Tuscan town of San Gimignano, famous for its many medieval 'skyscrapers'. The winemaker, Leonardo Chesi, trained in Siena and has made this wine in the style of an approachable, early-drinking Chianti. Rich red fruit and tangy cherry flavours are layered with warming vanilla. Really lovely stuff!

Chateau Moulin Saint-Georges 2004
Chateau Moulin Saint-Georges 2004 - £20.49
Price on from Laithwaites.
Chateau Moulin-St-Georges is owned by Alain Vauthier of the great Chateau Ausone - the most famous Saint-Emilion which sells for #600 a bottle! Think of Alain's Moulin St Georges as a sumptuous alternative and ''one of the best buys in St-Emilion'' (Parker). Of course there is far more to this story than mere mutual ownership. The chateau lies on some of the best limestone soils of Saint-Emilion - on the southwest facing 'Pavie' slope just below its Premier Grand Cru cousin. Yields are kept low to ensure maximum concentration and the wine is aged in new oak for up to 20 months. Made mainly from Merlot the wine is deliciously smooth and very attractive and approachable even in youth. ''2004 Moulin St Georges possesses an inky purple colour and a beautiful nose of black raspberries, licorice, crushed rocks and flowers. The oak is superbly integrated ...'' (Wine Advocat).

Clos du Duc 2006
Clos du Duc 2006 - £20.95
Price on from Laithwaites.
Like the iconic Vieux Telegraphe, this Chateauneuf-du-Pape is made by the Brunier brothers, Frederic and Daniel, and boasts the same famous power and intense flavour concentration. Meticulous attention to detail and a winemaking philosophy that spares no expense create a distinct 'family resemblance' albeit in a fresher, livelier and more readily approachable style. At half the price of its celebrated sister estate it's an unequivocal 'buy'!
