Le Grand Chai Grand Cru Saint-Emilion 2005
Le Grand Chai Grand Cru Saint-Emilion 2005 - £16.39
Price on from Laithwaites.
Today we open the door to the most exciting Chai release yet ... from ''Bordeaux's best ever vintage!'' (Wine & Spirit mag) From prime vineyards right next door to #35-a-bottle Rol Valentin and a short stroll from #80 Chateau Figeac ... Le Grand Chai Saint-Emilion Grand Cru (a mouthful in every way) is not to be missed! Saint-Emilion 2005 ... everything just 'clicked' - wine lovers and critics across the world all agreed that these clarets were nothing short of spectacular! Robert Parker called it ''exquisite and exceptional ... 99/100!'' , Decanter magazine said ''the wines are all perfect.'' Such a vintage is bound to be in hot demand, but Late in 2005, Le Chai's Jean-Marc Sauboua bumped into an old school chum who knew of a tiny parcel of Saint-Emilion Grand Cru from 40-year-old vines and prime-sited vineyards - it was soon on its way to Le Chai, for 'finishing' in the finest French oak barrels. Dark and brooding, with powerful aromas of blueberry, plum and fresh coffee. As with the finest Saint-Emilion, the fruit will grow almost sweet as it matures. Magnificent!

Chateau Moulin Saint-Georges 2004
Chateau Moulin Saint-Georges 2004 - £20.49
Price on from Laithwaites.
Chateau Moulin-St-Georges is owned by Alain Vauthier of the great Chateau Ausone - the most famous Saint-Emilion which sells for #600 a bottle! Think of Alain's Moulin St Georges as a sumptuous alternative and ''one of the best buys in St-Emilion'' (Parker). Of course there is far more to this story than mere mutual ownership. The chateau lies on some of the best limestone soils of Saint-Emilion - on the southwest facing 'Pavie' slope just below its Premier Grand Cru cousin. Yields are kept low to ensure maximum concentration and the wine is aged in new oak for up to 20 months. Made mainly from Merlot the wine is deliciously smooth and very attractive and approachable even in youth. ''2004 Moulin St Georges possesses an inky purple colour and a beautiful nose of black raspberries, licorice, crushed rocks and flowers. The oak is superbly integrated ...'' (Wine Advocat).

Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste
Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste - £28.00
Price on from Laithwaites.
Situated on the 'Bages' plateau of Pauillac, Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste shares its perfect ''terroir'' with prestigious winery Chateau Lynch-Bages. Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou's Jean-Eugene Borie owns the property, but it's his son Xavier who is at the helm of the wine production. Since Xavier's involvement the winery has been going from strength to strength - Robert Parker says, ''Grand-Puy-Lacoste has surged to the forefront of leading Pauillacs''. Voted Decanter's Wine of the Year in 2007, Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste 2004 exhibits ''subtle aromas of currant, berries and vanilla follow through to a full-bodied palate, with silky tannins and a long finish.'' (Wine Spectator)

Chateau Corbin 2005
Chateau Corbin 2005 - £29.00
Price on from Laithwaites.
Steeped in heritage, Chateau Corbin is one of the oldest estates in St Emilion. Some parts of the property date back to the fifteenth century and according to legend, Corbin was the focal point of the stronghold that belonged to the Black Prince. Today, Chateau Corbin is the only estate in St. Emilion that's owned solely by women, and with a female winemaker. Anabelle Cruse Bardinet's great-grandparents bought the estate in 1924 and ever since she took it over in 1999 - the winery has been going from strength to strength! Wine Spectator suggest that 2005 was the ''best ever'' vintage from this estate ... and we can certainly see why! Robert Parker awarded the wine an incredible 90-point score, describing it as ''open-knit, broad, savoury St.-Emilion possessing abundant notes of sweet cherries, blackcurrants, roasted herbs, spice, and vanilla in its medium to full-bodied, lush personality.'' Final bottles - so hurry!

Chateau Mauvinon Bellevue 2005
Chateau Mauvinon Bellevue 2005 - £14.39
Price on from Laithwaites.
Chateau Mauvinon Bellevue is a little-known Saint-Emilion estate that produces wines to rival those of neighbouring #40-a-bottle estates. Get a glass in front of you and the purity and power of 2005 are immediately apparent. With ''unprecedented'' demand for 2005, once in a lifetime gems like these are usually very expensive - so you see why Chateau Mauvinon Bellevue has us so excited! ''Damsons, blackberries and plums vie with spice, vanilla and smoky notes. Full of classic St-Emilion power and Grand Cru complexity - plus the structure to age for a decade but the silky elegance to be enjoyed now. Opening a bottle will be a special occasion in itself!''

Reserve du Prevot 2004 - £9.49

Where better to look for an exceptional quality Rhone red than one of the region's greatest estates - Chateau du Beaucastel, which makes ''arguably the ultimate Chateauneuf-du-Pape'' (Sunday Express), ''the wines are inimitable'' says Decanter magazine. And Reserve du Prevot, the Perrin brothers' very fine Cotes-du-Rhone, owes its celebrated depth of flavour to the ripe, handpicked Syrah and Grenache grapes from prime vineyards right next door to Chateauneuf-du-Pape. This ''full-bodied, mini Chateauneuf-du-Pape'' (The Sunday Times) is the pinnacle of what can be achieved in the appellation. Rich, mouthfilling ripe bramble fruit with a long balanced finish. Wonderfully expressive of the wild, herby southern French countryside. This wine comes 'highly recommended' by The Guardian and The Sunday Times, orders for twelve bottles are delivered in wooden cases.
