Bovlei Centenary
Bovlei Centenary - £77.99
Price on from Laithwaites.
2007 saw Wellington's Bovlei winery reach its centenary year and to celebrate, they crafted just 665 cases of this majestic red ... and thanks to our longstanding friendship, Bovlei set some aside, just for you! Head winemaker Frank Meaker is a luminary figure in South African wine. His grandfather was Paul Sauer, political activist and founder of Kanonkop Estate, South Africa's finest winery. Frank's earliest memories are of walking the vines with his grandfather, dreaming of the day when he could make his own wines. To make this special, one-off blockbuster, Frank selected the finest parcels of fruit. He chose the ripest Petit Verdot for elegant, backboned structure. Then to add super-smooth depth, Frank drew on the Cape's fortified heritage, choosing two delightful old Port varieties - Souzoa and Touriga Nacional. A nine-month rest in fine oak adds a subtle vanilla layer to this delightfully unique wine. Gloriously complex combination of blackberry and mulberry fruit, claret-like structure and subtle oak. The Port grapes add a warm mouthfeel and sweet nuances ... great with roasts and chargrilled steaks.

Chateau Monsan Estebe 2005
Chateau Monsan Estebe 2005 - £7.39
Price on from Laithwaites.
Located near St Emilion overlooking the famous Chateau Clos de la Tour, this small estate was built by the Candau family in the 19th century. Four generations later, M.Candau and his son are still working in the vineyards and producing wonderful hand harvested, Merlot-rich claret. Thanks to careful tending by successive generations, the old vines give their wines real concentration of flavour and character - once much appreciated by Gustave Eiffel who owned property near-by. The estate's sun-exposed vineyards ensure complete ripeness and early morning picking maximises the fruit flavours. The exceptional 2005 vintage is one of the most highly rated in living memory, and M.Candau is immensely proud of the result. Ripe and full, with soft mulberry and cassis notes. Plenty of structure makes this an ideal accompaniment to grilled red meats and cheeses.

Chateau Lagrezette 2004
Chateau Lagrezette 2004 - £15.39
Price on from Laithwaites.
Steeped in heritage, Chateau Lagrezette is set among some of the oldest vineyards in France. The impressive estate was built in the 15th Century on the foundations of a 12th century fortified house. Current owner, diamond-magnate Alain Dominique Perrin bought the property 25 years ago and has invested great time and energy ( ...and money!) to restoring the property to its former winemaking glory. Assisted by renowned wine consultant Michel Rolland, Alain-Dominique produces incredibly concentrated wines of magnificent complexity. This dense and silken red is made from 100% Malbec - a variety first planted here more than 500 years ago! Long-lived and powerful, Chateau Lagrezette has received high praise in the press - notably from Robert Parker and Hugh Johnson. ''Purple-stained dark red. By no means an old fashioned 'black' Cahors, mulberry and blackberry - scented, grainy and almost soft, but with gently abrasive tannins, scrubbing the palate without a bite. Beautifully-made wine, carrying its aromas all the way to a long finish.'' Hugh Johnson

Domaine La Commanderie 2004
Domaine La Commanderie 2004 - £5.69
Price on from Laithwaites.
Richly concentrated thanks to miserly yields from gnarled 75-year-old vines - this mouthfilling red is laden with juicy blackberry and mulberry flavours. It's from a highly rated Baylion-Gorand family estate, located near Perpignan, deep in France's sunny south. Made from the local grape varieties, Syrah, Grenache and Carignan, this is the kind of wine that has earned the Languedoc its reputation as 'one of the undiscovered bastions of delicious, value-packed wines'(Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate). ''Deep ruby colour. Attractive nose of blackberry and currant fruit with spicy undertones. The palate is well structured with silky tannins and excellent concentration of ripe berry fruit. The finish is long and fruity.''
