Chateau Maucoil Cuvee Speciale 2004
Chateau Maucoil Cuvee Speciale 2004 - £14.99
Price on from Laithwaites.
Maucoil was once home to Roman legions defending the area from the native Gauls. The ancient vineyards are now tended by husband and wife team Guy and Daniele Arnaud, who are dedicated to producing quality wines using ten out of the thirteen grape varieties that are permitted in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Their vineyard produces tiny yields, resulting in pure, concentrated flavours. Only the highest quality, hand-harvested grapes are allowed into the presses, and the wine is treated to a luxury slumber in finest French oak to give it a mellow, toasty edge. Deep ruby in colour with juicy, red berry aromas. Full bodied, yet delightfully smooth, with layers of toasty oak and spice. Well suited to rich, meaty casseroles or game. Decant before serving, as gentle filtering means the wine may throw a slight deposit.

One taste of this Gold medal heritage red and you'll see why Andre Roux - a veteran of some 67 vintages - is something of a Rhone legend.Customers first met him in 1973 when we broke the budget with a huge shipment of six cases!
