Wrangles Chardonnay Viognier Riesling 2006
Wrangles Chardonnay Viognier Riesling 2006 - £10.39
Price on from Laithwaites.
Made exclusively for our loyal customers, this is boutique wine at its finest! It's a mouth-tingling combination of Chardonnay, Viognier and Riesling - three of the finest quality white grapes there are. And as you'll soon see, there is an amazing synergy of flavours between them. Chardonnay forms a rich, creamy base with peach-scented fruit. Viognier adds exotic apricot and honeysuckle aromas while Riesling adds finesse and racy acidity. All the fruit was grown in Orange, NSW where altitude makes for a moderate and even growing season. Cool nights have the effect of emphasizing the grapes' aromatic qualities. The mastermind behind this wine is Philip Shaw - a wine trade 'guru', well known to long-standing Rosemount Estate fans and now the proud owner of a brand new winery of his own in Orange. If you had to choose just one new wine for the Summer, we couldn't recommend anything more refreshing or rewarding. Serve chilled with barbecued seafood kebabs, king prawns or a chicken and mango salad.

Von Buhl Riesling QBA 2005
Von Buhl Riesling QBA 2005 - £8.49
Price on from Laithwaites.
When it comes to top-quality Riesling there is concord amongst experts. They differ only in choice of superlative the'most sublime'...'most mouthwatering and elegant'... 'aristocratic'...'prince of grapes'. The family-owned Von Buhl estate has been one of the finest producers of supreme quality Riesling since it was founded in 1849. Today their Rieslings consistently receive ratings over 90 points from Wine Spectator and Robert Parker. A leading German wine publication lists a Von Buhl wine amongst the best 100 in the world, and their top releases sell for #150-a-half bottle! The vintage (very sunny with a short, early harvest) was, according to one local expert ''perfect! One of the best in the last 50 years.'' Elegantly pairing Riesling's lightness of touch with ripe, full-flavoured fruit. Luscious, not sweet, yet zippy too - and with a delightful echo of peaches and pears. Fresh and appetizing with almost any food, from salmon to chicken to cheese and fruit - even Indian and Thai curry.

Bon Courage Riesling 2007
Bon Courage Riesling 2007 - £6.69
Price on from Laithwaites.
Robertson well deserves its reputation as South Africa's leading wine producing region. The lime-rich soils here are ideal for growing grapes (and roses!), something the Bruwer family have known for generations - ever since Willie Bruwer bought the Bon Courage estate back in 1927. This beautiful homestead is now run by Jacques Bruwer with the help of his father Andre, who at the age of 65 still jumps onto the tractor to get out into the vines on an almost daily basis. It's this dedication that helps them produce some of the best white wines in South Africa. Indeed, the estate seems to rack up medals by the day ... their trophy cabinet is full to bursting! Exclusive to us, their exuberant, blossom-scented Riesling is yet another winner - awarded a coveted Silver medal at South Africa's Young Wine Show. Judges loved the ripe, tropical fruit flavours, classic Riesling notes of kerosene and apricot, and the wonderfully refreshing, long finish. We think you'll love it too!

Loosen Bernkasteler Badstube Riesling Kabinett 2004
Loosen Bernkasteler Badstube Riesling Kabinett 2004 - £12.39
Price on from Laithwaites.
When it comes to quality German Riesling like this, ''No other wine can offer in a single sip as much finesse, purity of fruit, intensity of flavour and thrilling acidity'' (New Sotheby's Wine Encyclopedia). And after years of being overlooked, it's now very much the 'in' style - especially over the Summer months. Happily, prices don't yet reflect the high quality, so the value is outstanding. Ernst Loosen has been both 'Decanter Man of the Year' and the 'White Winemaker of the Year' at the International Wine Challenge, so you'd be hard pressed to find a finer exponent of fabulous German Rieslings. This is a Kabinett - a step up from standard QbA wines with a little more intensity and finesse. It's mouthwatering aromas recall lemons, lime and passion fruit, while its fresh, fruitiness is balanced by irresistibly racy acidity. Serve lightly chilled as an aperitif, with pan fried scallops, grilled fish fillets or a light green pea risotto.

Stonewall Late Harvest Riesling 2005
Stonewall Late Harvest Riesling 2005 - £10.15
Price on from Laithwaites.
New Zealand is well-suited to Riesling, which loves cooler climates. Picked late in the season when the grapes are extra ripe and rich in sugar, this late harvest Riesling is a rare treat of extraordinary quality. It's scooped two prestigious Gold medals and New Zealand's 'Best Riesling' Trophy to date. Dr John Forrest has established an enviable reputation for his wines over the years with his now-famous Sauvignon Blancs steeling headlines and awards from the legendary Cloudy Bay. Clearly his talents extend to other varieties too! A rich, mouth-watering, sweeter style of Riesling with a luscious texture, an intense core of ripe apricot and passion fruit flavour and zesty-fresh acidity to balance. It's aromatic, concentrated and persistent. Serve chilled on its own or with creme brulee, lemon cheese cake, apricot tart, or Eton Mess.

If you like refreshing whites, you'll love this pristine, high-altitude Riesling from the Flessati family. Sentiero is named after the spiral footpath that snakes its way through the vineyard, visible from the road running from Verona to Trento. With warm days and cool nights, the vineyards are ideal for creating crisp, aromatic white wines. Invigorating mountain air helps give this dry Riesling a fresh mouthwatering appeal. Price on from Laithwaites.
Leitz is one of Germany's greatest winemakers - certainly ''few in the Rheingau make finer wines than Leitz'' ('The German Wine Guide'). One of the things that sets him apart is that he ferments his wines using only natural wild yeasts - a technique he learned from friends in Meursault. Reisling is often rated ''the finest white wine grape in the world'' (Jancis Robinson MW) so why not start at the top with this splendid steely, heavenly-scented, off-dry example.
