Domaine les Gours Roussanne 2006
Domaine les Gours Roussanne 2006 - £6.29
Price on from Laithwaites.
Wonderfully ripe Roussanne, the broad-shouldered southern speciality perfect for this time of year. Hand-picked fruit from an 18th century domaine gives a deliciously full, smooth white wine bursting with ripe peach, apricot and hints of spice on the finish - great price too!

Pech de Calade Roussanne 2005
Pech de Calade Roussanne 2005 - £5.99
Price on from Laithwaites.
Though much used to add spice and vibrancy to white Chateauneuf, the Roussanne grape seldom has the chance to shine on its own. Now those in the know are discovering just how good it can be! Pech (meaning little hill) de Calade is made from various domaines near Beziers in France's Midi by Australian supremo Richard Osborne. Selecting only the best parcels when they have reached optimum ripeness, he has created a well-balanced, complex style of wine. A wonderfully rounded mouthful of intense mineral and citrus, this is a weighty, lush style that provides a satisfying glass on its own yet has tons of character to partner food. Chill gently and crack open the bottle with sauced white meats, salmon with a lemon sauce, fish pie or a simple risotto. The cellar recommends Cantal cheese and quiche too!

Domaine de Rhodes Roussanne 2006
Domaine de Rhodes Roussanne 2006 - £6.15
Price on from Laithwaites.
Domaine de Rhodes is made in the style of white Chateauneuf-du-Pape. It boasts ripe stone fruit flavours, subtle oak plus a coveted Wine Challenge award - and tastes far more expensive than its humble #59.99 might suggest. That low price comes courtesy of our long association with the Barthe family, owners of Domaine de Rhodes for four generations. Their estate is blessed with precious rows of old Roussanne vines, a southern treasure that provides the backbone to white Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Early morning picking has preserved aromas and freshness in this mouthfilling white that recently out-performed many star names at the International Wine Challenge. Lovely golden colour gives a clue to the peachy aroma and ripe apricot and nectarine flavours which follow. Creamy and rich with a crisp finish. Brilliant with all kinds of seafood or chicken dishes.

Blanc Neuf La Bastide
Blanc Neuf La Bastide - £79.99
Price on from Laithwaites.
Proudly showing its 'Best-in-Class' accolade, this brand new, golden white has real Grand Cru pedigree. It's made by Olivier Bayle (ex Lafite Rothschild!) and is so much like white Chateauneuf-du-Pape that our staff call it 'Baby Beaucastel Blanc' (a nod to the region's top estate). Olivier's big, rich reds have always been a huge hit - which is why he was delighted to take up our challenge to make a white every bit as serious. And what a triumph! A classic Rhone blend - Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne - barrel-fermented to add toasty richness to the crisp peach and apricot. ''This is beautifully balanced and creamily textured wine with an alluring, peachy nose and succulent honeysuckle and pear palate. A grand wine designed for fish main courses or roast pork, it is a real treat.'' Matthew Jukes

Cuvee du Vatican Blanc 2006
Cuvee du Vatican Blanc 2006 - £17.39
Price on from Laithwaites.
Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc, whilst much rarer, can be just as intense, complex and compelling as this famous village's reds. We've been tracking the successes of Jean-Marc Diffonty for over a decade now and his '06 is up there with the finest. American critic Robert Parker has also been a fan of this premium family estate for many years. Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Clairette and Bourboulenc are gently barrel-aged and expertly combined into an exotic and harmonious mouthful of honeysuckle, lavender, lychees and lemon.

Reserve Bridayne 2005
Reserve Bridayne 2005 - £7.99
Price on from Laithwaites.
Our relationship with Andre Roux goes back over 30 years. A veteran over 70 vintages, he is a living legend in his native Rhone Valley. Andre's lavish homage to white Chateauneuf-du-Pape uses Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Viognier to make a delicious cocktail of complex flavours. White wines from this area are a rarity in comparison to the regions' famous reds - the excellent 2005 vintage makes this is a chance not to be missed. Rounded and buttery with ripe peach, pear and citrus flavour. Mouth-filling, satisfying and just a little bit different. It's extremely food friendly, and perfect with rich seafood, roast pork or creamy mild curries.
