Vi?a Tarapaca Cabernet Sauvignon
Vi?a Tarapaca Cabernet Sauvignon - £64.99
Price on from Laithwaites.
Tim Atkin of The Observer recently noted that ''Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon is without doubt one of the New World's great bargains''. Well, this particular example comes from the exceptional Vi?a Tarapaca estate AND the 2007 vintage - looking to be one of the Maipo Valley's finest ... you can be sure you're in for a REAL treat! Conditions in 2007 were cooler than normal, giving the grapes a longer ripening season ... a sure sign of an outstanding harvest and a good indicator of rich, flavour-packed reds. Give Tarapaca's highly skilled winemaker Cristian Molina a harvest like that, and you know you're in for something extra-special. Fastidious attention to detail gave Cristian one of the juiciest Cabernets he's ever produced. With credentials like this it's sure to sell out fast - order yours now! ''Deep ruby red in colour, with delicious ripe berry fruit aromas plus classic Cabernet hints of mint leaf. Intense layers of fresh blackcurrant and damson. No oak, just pure, vibrant fruit.''

Gran Tarapaca Casablanca Estate Sauvignon Blanc
Gran Tarapaca Casablanca Estate Sauvignon Blanc - £24.87
Price on from Laithwaites.
Casablanca has been hailed as a source of Chile's ''most exciting whites'' by Tim Atkin MW, so it's little wonder that Tarapaca are seriously proud of their dazzling Sauvignon from this exciting region. The secret to the success of white wines here are the cool breezes that drift in from the Pacific Ocean, helping to lengthen the ripening season and give wonderfully concentrated fruit flavours. Winemakers Ed Flaherty and Cristian Molina - who has several Parker-rated wines to his name - selected only the very best Sauvignon grapes (less than 0.6% of their total harvest!) to go into Gran Tarapaca, and treated a fraction of the wine to 4 months in French oak barrels to add a hint of vanilla richness. This attention to detail, combined with one of the best vintages Chile has ever seen, makes for a truly stunning wine! Intense aromas of kiwi and passion fruit merge seamlessly with savoury asparagus flavours and hints of minerality. An outstanding aperitif, it will also make a delicious partner to traditional Chilean ceviche (raw fish 'cooked' with lemon juice, onions and red peppers), sushi or a crisp green salad with grilled goat's cheese.

Gran Tarapaca Cabernet Sauvignon 2004
Gran Tarapaca Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 - £7.39
Price on from Laithwaites.
Tarapaca are based in the Maipo Valley, whose rocky, easily drained soil (irrigated by mountain snowmelt) makes for quality wine often compared to Bordeaux and the Napa Valley. And that's precisely where chief winemaker Sergio Correas did his training. The vines were taken from the great vineyards of Bordeaux and Burgundy, and subsequently the wines from Tarapaca encapsulate everything that is great about Chile - old world elegance and new world rich fruit depth. Medium-bodied with soft cassis and blackcurrant aromas lead to a soft, rounded mouthful of succulent black fruits, finishing delicately with a hint of spicy oak. Perfect with pasta in pesto, strong cheeses and roasted red meats.

Gran Tarapaca Oak-Aged Chardonnay 2006
Gran Tarapaca Oak-Aged Chardonnay 2006 - £7.79

Staff returning from Chile are effusive in their praise for Tarapaca. ''You must try this'' they implored, so we did, again ... and again! You couldn't wish for a riper, more delicious Chardonnay. Subtly oaked for added depth and complexity and bursting with fruit flavour thanks to ''an outstanding vintage'' (Wine Spectator). Great choice for any occasion. Fresh pear, melon and mango flavours, subtle spice and citrussy acidity make for superb balance and purity of texture. A luxurious aperitif and the perfect accompaniment to rich chicken and pasta dishes.

Gran Tarapaca Oak-Aged Chardonnay 2007
Gran Tarapaca Oak-Aged Chardonnay 2007 - £7.79

that's what our friends in Chile (and the critics) are saying about 2007. Just taste the extra ripeness for yourself. The historic Tarapaca cellar (est.1874) crafts perfect Chardonnay. This flagship white is barrel-matured, adding a depth and complexity making it a serious rival to twice-the-price Burgundy. Superb choice for Summer dinner parties. Stone fruit and vanilla oak aromas followed by opulent peach and apricot flavours. Simply delicious!

Gran Tarapaca Carmenere 2007
Gran Tarapaca Carmenere 2007 - £7.79
Price on from Laithwaites.
Luxuriously spicy red from our friends at Tarapaca in the Maipo Valley, whose rocky, easily drained soil (irrigated by mountain snowmelt) makes for quality wines often compared to Bordeaux and the Napa Valley! Widely cultivated in the Medoc in the 18th century, Carmenere is a rare old Bordeaux variety that has made a dramatic comeback in Chile ... producing dark, intensely ripe reds like this. Rich and brooding with spice and coffee flavours - a fresh plum and cherry nose, plus soft, ripe tannins. As The Times says: ''a great addition to the dining table''. Perfect with pasta in pesto, strong cheeses and roasted red meats

Vi?a Tarapaca Sauvignon Blanc
Vi?a Tarapaca Sauvignon Blanc - £44.34
Price on from Laithwaites.
Year after year the winemaking team at Vi?a Tarapaca enthrall and impress with fabulous, fruit-driven Sauvignons. Step aside Sancerre; make way Marlborough! Oz Clarke hits the nail on the head when he says ''Chile just creams the opposition.'' High in the Andes foothills, fruit is picked by hand and rigorously sorted to ensure only the best fruit makes it to the winery. In charge is the now legendary Sergio Correa - twice crowned Chile's Winemaker of the Year - and he's delighted by the vibrancy and mouthwatering quality of the 2007 Sauvignon Blanc. Extraordinary pure hue with whistle-clean aromas and flavours of crisp citrus, lemon grass, gooseberry and melon. Perfect aperitif and delicious with goat's cheese or grilled seafood.
