It can appear in all guises - from the intensely honeyed and ageworthy, to off-dry, through to bone dry. This Reserve' is ever-so-slightly off-dry. Subtle honeydew melon aromas, guava and melon flavours, well-poised with balanced citrus lime 'backbone'. Delicious to sip now but will gather further complexity over the next couple of years. Sentiero Sauvignon Blanc 2004
Sentiero Sauvignon Blanc 2004 - £8.29
Price on from Laithwaites.
Named after the spiral footpath that snakes its way through the vineyards, visible from the main road that runs from Verona to Trento, and on to the Brenner Pass, Sentiero Sauvignon Blanc is made by the Concilio winery ... which has a history of winemaking in the Trentino Alto Adige region since 1860. Although proud of its heritage, the winery uses the modern stainless steel winemaking equipment to retain the maximum aroma and flavour in the wine. Fresh and nettle-scented, with a hint of blackcurrant leaf and fresh, lemony flavours. Delightfully crisp and refreshing, this is delicious drunk on its own or with grilled trout & toasted almonds, or taglietelle with fresh basil and plum tomatoes.

Les Combes Hautes
Les Combes Hautes - £55.99
Price on from Laithwaites.
Here's an unmissable offer for fans of the Minervois' flavour-packed reds. Les Combes Hautes is a new, oak-aged treat from winemaking friends in the south. And what a bargain! It comes from a top region - Minervois is a source of top-quality reds, offering ''high quality, good value, fruit driven wines ... out-terroirs (sic) the New World'' (Decanter) - and it's made from premium, hand-picked fruit from ancient, 80-year-old wines ... superb concentration! Ensuring this quality is gifted winemaker Mathieu Carrara, who learned his craft in the hallowed cellars of Burgundy. He oversees the winemaking and treats his wine to 8 months in fine French oak, giving a delicious scent of cloves and vanilla. Deeply coloured, with spicy aromas of forest fruit with hints of wild thyme and rosemary. Bold mouthfuls of hearty blackcurrant with Syrah spice and notes of vanilla. One to buy by the dozen - with confidence!

Killibinbin Shiraz
Killibinbin Shiraz - £23.49
Price on from Laithwaites.
Killibinbin - a small, boutique winery set in the Adelaide Hills region of Australia - was founded by self-confessed wine nuts Wayne Anderson and Liz Blank. After years of working in the hospitality industry, the couple decided to throw caution to the wind and dedicate their lives to producing top-notch wines. They started out with ''no vineyard, no grapes, no winery, no winemaker, no money, but loads of gumption!'' Their philosophy about winemaking is equally as simple - ''it's all about the fruit'' - and they keep to traditional methods. The guys at the RedHeads studio share this approach, so the Killibinbin wines are made here. Gentle, patient winemaking draws extraordinary colour and texture from the hand-picked Shiraz ... you'll find vanilla and oak spice, chocolaty, blackberry fruit, coffee notes - so much going on. Silky, silky tannins and a mile-long finish ... little wonder Australian wine expert James Halliday gave it a fantastic 92 points. We think you'll love it too!

Feudo Di Maria Merlot
Feudo Di Maria Merlot - £44.34
Price on from Laithwaites.
Where once Sicily was only known for sweet, sticky Marsala, today it is a hothouse of winemaking innovation producing some of the biggest and best bargains in all of Italy. And that's saying something! As Hugh Johnson notes in his classic reference 'The World Atlas of Wine', ''the advent of Sicilian table wine has been spectacular'' The Di Marias have a long history of winemaking but are definitely not hidebound by tradition. Since 2000 they have teamed up with fellow local experts the Biscardo family in order to produce very high quality Sicilian wines. This lovely silky-smooth Merlot is as fine as any from Bordeaux AOC but with the added Mediterranean warmth and charm. Black cherry and plum bouquet. Smooth and very mouthfilling plum flavours and more than a hint of black liquorice, sweet spice and minerals. Match with char-grilled red meats or hearty casseroles.
