The wine itself is named in honour of the annual Vendimia, or harvest festival, when thousands of dancers group together to celebrate the grape harvest in an open air theatre in Mendoza - Argentinia's 'city of wine'. At the end of the night, into the small hours, the voting takes place for the year's Harvest Queen - ''La Reina de la Vendimia''. Our buyer Thomas, who was there this year, says ''it's probably the biggest vintage festival in the world!'' Grown in high altitude vineyards, the grapes are seriously concentrated - the warm days and cool nights in the Andes help retain the crisp fruit flavours. When our old friends at Italy's fabulous Farnese estate decided to make a rare Pecorino of outstanding quality, they did so with the same gusto that transformed their Trebbiano white into an International Wine Challenge 'Wine of the Year'. Pecorino is a subtle, characterful grape - not to be confused with the ancient Tuscan cheese of the same name - that is something of an endangered species in the big brand wine world. By reducing yields and working on selected vineyard sites the team have produced a delicate but concentrated white, with just a little oak for added complexity. It did the trick too - picking up a coveted Gran Mezzione at Vinitaly and a London Gold in its first year. This follow-up vintage is even better with a Gold and Pecorino Trophy from the International Wine Challenge. Pale yellow with glints of fresh green. There's a tantalising minerality on the nose leading to a concentrated, crisp palate with real depth and class - no more than you'd expect from Farnese - plus a lovely long finish.

When Sam was making this wine, all it lacked was a name ... until one day wandering the vineyard Sam stumbled upon an old letterbox. Using a handful of grapes to clean away the grime, the name Kittoch was revealed! Apparently the vineyard's creek reminded a former Scottish owner of the creek which runs through the Kittoch Valley near Clyde! Bright yellow is colour with a heady orange blossom aroma and round flavours of lemon and honeydew melon. Crisp, refreshing and very long. Enjoy with calamari, grilled snapper or antipasti.
